‘Bart Moeyaert’s condensed and musical language vibrates with suppressed emotions and unspoken desires. He portrays relationships at crisis point with a cinematic immediacy, even as his complex narratives suggest new ways forward. Bart Moeyaert’s luminous work underscores the fact that books for children and young people have a self-evident place in world literature.’ Citation of the ALMA-jury

Shark Teeth

My Brother and I

The Project – or how I got lost in the jungle

• An exciting and touching story • By Gouden Griffel winner Anna Woltz • Written for the National Children’s Book Week, with a print run of 582,000 copies

• An exciting and engaging story • Stimulates thinking about artificial intelligence • Written for the Dutch Month of Philosophy

• Gripping, touching and funny • By two-time Gouden Griffel winner Simon van der Geest • About the search for a biological father • With plenty of illustrations by Karst-Janneke Rogaar

Atlanta has a crazy plan. For the most important journey of her life, she needs twelve slices of bread, four bananas, her night braces and some Christmas lights. She’s only just set off when she crashes into Finley’s bike. Finley has run away from home and only has two shark teeth with him. Was meeting him bad luck for Atlanta – or was it perhaps good luck?

It’s the hottest day of the summer holiday. Amira has finally managed to persuade her brother Adam to go to the swimming pool with her, although he says it’s not good for him. Adam has a great time, but then he starts to act strangely. He comes out with nonsense and talks about an upset system. What’s up with Amira’s brother? Abdelkader Benali has written an exciting story that will make readers think. In this age of technology and robots, what is the difference between real and not real?

Eva has to do a project for biology on a subject that she wants to find out more about. She picks ‘biological fathers’ as her subject, because she knows absolutely nothing about her own biological father. Her mother, the famous singer Silla Locks, is keeping her lips firmly sealed. The more Eva gets into the subject, the more certain she is that she wants to see her father. Even if it means that she has to go all the way to Suriname. Van der Geest travelled from Paramaribo to the heart of the Surinamese rainforest to do research for this book.

A Thief on the Street!

While Jan spends the whole afternoon watching television, all kinds of things happen out on the street. Someone steals a bit of his neighbour Rose’s cake. His neighbour Mo’s meatballs vanish without a trace. And so do his neighbour Mees’s pancakes. And every time there’s a trail of crumbs leading to Jan’s house. How can that be? Who is the thief?

‘Cheerful and inventive – a sparkling collection.’ – Trouw

• A touching story about growing up and the importance of a listening ear • By the author of the award-winning Lampje (English: Lampie and the Children of the Sea)

The Tree with the Ear

A little boy can’t wait for school to be over so that he can tell someone the exciting news he discovered today. But his parents are at work and everyone else is too busy to listen to him. In the park, he hears that there is an ear in the very tallest tree of all. An ear that really listens... ‘Schaap and Hopman have really brought out the poetry in each other.’ – NRC Handelsblad

English translation available

De wind suisde langs hun snuiten. De vacht van Fabeltje wapperde. Zijn zachte oren flapperden. De spekwangetjes van Benjamin dansten.

Annet Schaap & Philip Hopman
