You can build huts and jump around in puddles. But will Tim also manage to help an injured jackdaw recover? Fortunately, he can count on the help of his friend Tippi, who also wants to become a forester. Jan Paul Schutten went out with “the real” forester Tim. During hour-long hikes through the woods and across the heath, Tim told about his experiences in his current profession as a forester. The Jungle Book Rudyard Kipling, Daan Remmerts de Vries & Mark Janssen Forget the screen adaptations of The Jungle Book – this is the real story of Mowgli, who grew up in the jungle of India... Even as a toddler, Mowgli had to flee from the foul, people-hating tiger Shere Kahn. He was rescued in the nick of time by two wolves, who protected and raised him. However, the tiger had not forgotten about him; there is always the threat of that striped enemy. Fortunately, Mowgli is assisted by two wonderful friends: the thoughtful black panther Baghera and the good-natured bear Baloo. From them, he learns the laws of the jungle, with which he gradually understands that you have to watch out for monkeys, that you have to be polite to elephants and that it is useful to speak the language of the snakes. Ultimately, the question arises: is Mowgli an animal or actually a human…?

Oliver Twist Charles Dickens, Tiny Fisscher & Annette Fienieg

Imagine that you are born in a workhouse, that your mother dies shortly after you are born, and you have nothing and no one left. This is exactly what happened to Oliver Twist, one of Charles Dickens’s most famous book characters. Dickens wrote the book primarily as a protest against the social injustices in early Victorian society, in which child labour in so-called workhouses was not uncommon, and street children were recruited by gangs of thieves. The book was first published in 1838 and although it was intended for adults, the story has been made into films, television series, musicals and plays for the whole family many times. It is therefore remarkable that an integral book adaptation for children has never been published before. Until now, with this full-colour illustrated edition! Tiny Fisscher made a sparkling adaptation that will also be appreciated by adults, and Annette Fienieg provided the atmospheric and moving illustrations.

My year in a tent Tiny Fisscher “Ah well, it’s only one week,” my mother said. “A year,” I muttered. “Hm?” My father responded absently, scrolling through pictures of tents. “Not a week,” I said, “a year.” There was a moment of silence. “A year?” They yelled at the same time. They looked at me as if I had said I wanted to jump out of a plane without a parachute. In short, I had something to explain. For a Challenge Week that teacher Sinan organizes at school, the eleven-year-old Swan decides to raise money for children in refugee camps. As a challenge, she chooses to sleep in a tent in her backyard. But that is not the least of a challenge, because they live very remote, and Swan struggles with fears - fears that she would like to overcome. Even before she starts her challenge, she decides to make it last longer than a week: a year, even. It will be a scary, difficult, exciting, bizarre, but also a beautiful and educational year. All of that in a special tent, which has everything to do with a traumatic event that occurred two years earlier...
