8 Things That Being Single Teaches You About Relationships
Being single has its own advantages and disadvantages, just like being in a relationship. Not everyone who is in a relationship is happy and contented. In fact, many of those who have been in the wrong relationships ended up being miserable. So if you are currently single, don’t you ever think that you are doomed or that you are hopeless. The truth is, being single is great especially when you are young and there are many things that you can actually learn from being single, and here are some of those.
1. You would rather be single than be in a wrong relationship It is always better to be alone that be in a miserable and toxic relationship. Relationships, despite the challenges and obstacles, are still supposed to inspire you, motivate you and make you happy. You do not deserve to be in a relationship that only destroys you. It won’t kill you to be single.
2. Being single can teach you about independence If you are single, you won’t have to depend your happiness on someone else because you are happy to be alone, and you are happy with your own company. You don’t need to have anyone to tell you what to do because you can confidently make decisions on your own.
3. You should not sell yourself short There is no better time to realize that you deserve someone good enough for you, than when you are single. If you are not committed to anyone, it will be a lot easier to see that you should not settle for less than you deserve. You do not have to be the one begging and being desperate for a person to love you, because you deserve to be loved and be treated right.
4. You are in charge of your own feelings Whether you feel happy or sad, there is no one else to blame but yourself, and that happens when you are single. What’s nice about it is that you are free to feel lonely whenever you want to. We all need a time along to feel all the loneliness and pain, before moving on to another relationship. This way, it will be a lot easier for you to find that strength you need.
5. Self-love is important in finding lasting happiness Before you even learn to love someone, you need to be able to love yourself. Self-love means you care for yourself enough that you won’t be accepting anything less than you deserve. It means that you earn the respect, treatment and care you deserve, because you believe that you don’t need anything less
than that. Remember that how you treat yourself is how other people are also going to treat you.
6. You can be happy even when you are not in a relationship Not all couples in a relationship are happy couples, and not all single people are lonely. There are just so many things that can bring you happiness like your family, friends, your pets if you have them, your hobbies, passion, career, studies and everything else that makes you feel complete. Being single does not mean that you are not complete.
7. You don’t have to hurry when finding the right person Being single is a perfect time to find yourself, get to know yourself better and find out more of the things that please you. This is an excellent chance for you to love yourself better. And as soon as person comes along, it does not mean that you have to take that chance right away even if you aren’t very certain about the person. You don’t have to rush just because you don’t have a partner. Just keep your doors open for the right love to come along. Do not get into a relationship out of desperation or you will only regret it in the end.
8. You will learn the value of friendship There is no better time to enjoy your time with your friends than when you are young and single.
