Public Museum plans summer New classes and camps are featured among the Sioux City Public Museum’s summer programming beginning June 12 for children ages 2 and up. Reservations are required for all summer programs. Class size is limited; prepayment is required to hold reservations for classes with fees. Due to the success of its spring break camp, the museum has expanded its summer afternoon camp offerings to two age groups. Held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays, each camp costs $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers with an afternoon snack provided. Camps for children ages 7-9 years are Cooking Camp June 19-21 and Dinosaur Dig Camp July 17-19; camps for children ages 10 and up are Architecture II Camp June 26-28 and Inventions Camp July 10-12. A new free family program, Thursdays with a Scientist, will be held on the second Thursday of the month during the summer from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The themes are Weather on June 14, Dinosaurs on July 12, and Water on Aug. 9. The free Sioux City Sleuths series continues throughout the summer on the third Wednesday of the month for children ages 2-4. A variety of themes such Around the Farm and a Victorian Tea Party

Summer Guide 2012 ArtSplash beckons The BIG ones local artists to Splash Artist Program The real last festival of summer, ArtSplash, really wants local talent out there for its second year of the Splash Artist Program. This ArtSplash artist program is open to all local artists and has a deadline of Jun 15. The jury will select five artists to participate free of charge in the 2012 ArtSplash festival on Labor Day weekend, September 1-2. The program connects gifted newcomers with experienced mentors who will help navigate the operational details of selling artwork in the festival market. The Art Center will furnish a $100 stipend for each artist to either rent or purchase a tent. Entry is open to any artist who has never taken part in a juried art show and lives in the Siouxland area or surrounding area.. All work must be original and created by the artist. No students (artist should not currently be enrolled in a high school, trade or training school, or
