Kick off your child/teen’s week with Monday evening chess. Join us at the Tuthill House after school for fun, friendly chess games. We will try to pair you up with players of similar skill levels. If you are new to chess, we will teach you the rules and a few strategies to use in the game. Registration required.

AGES: 13–17

Looking to play some board games but aren’t sure where to start or who to play with? Join us once a month for our Game Night! Board games will be provided, but you can bring your own if you would like to share a game with others. Grab a friend and bring them along or join us and make some new ones. Most importantly, come and have some fun.

AGES: 13–17

“Dance the night away!” Join us for a delightful evening of music and Barbie with friends. We will have a Barbiethemed friendship bracelet trading station and a designated area for creating your very own bracelets. Capture your moment in our Barbie photo op. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Get ready to groove to the beat with lively music and participate in exciting contests such as limbo and hula hooping.

TODDLER NATURE EXPLORERS

TUTHILL PARK

AGES: 2–3

Nature provides children with many opportunities for discovery and creativity. Bring your toddler and explore nature with us! We will create a fun nature craft, go on an exploration walk, and read a children’s wilderness story. Each date will have a different theme! Week One: Birds. Week Two: Music of Nature. Week Three: Pollinators. Parent participation and registration are required.

MAY DAY BASKETS

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER

AGES: 2–12

Celebrate Spring at the Midco Aquatic Center by making your own May Day Basket. Come with a parent or guardian to help make a May Day Basket filled with goodies. Food decorating, paper crafts and fun! One basket per child. No registration required.

ARROWHEAD PARK

AGES: 2–3

What better way to prepare for St. Patrick’s Day than a morning of fun and games at the Arrowhead House? Join Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation as your child creates a four-leaf clover canvas painting. Children will also participate in an obstacle course that includes climbing over rainbows, jumping over shamrocks, and racing through hoops to find that pot of gold. As we take a break, we will create and eat themed snacks! To wrap up, we will make a crown to wear to the festivities throughout the day. Registration required.

PLANT AND GROW

ARROWHEAD PARK

AGES: 6–9

Come and learn the secret behind how a plant grows. Children who garden have shown increased responsibility, self-awareness, and a higher likelihood to eat healthy foods, including fruits and vegetables. After learning about plant characteristics, participants will decorate a flowerpot and plant their very own plant to take home. Registration required.

JR. BIRDERS

AGES: 6–12

Birdwatching can help build patience, concentration, and observation while allowing children to develop a connection to the natural world. We will learn a few bird calls and go on a scavenger hunt in search of birds throughout our surroundings while learning how to use binoculars properly. Binoculars provided. Registration required.

Hop on over to the Midco® Aquatic Center for a chance to dine with the Easter Bunny! Registration includes lunch and a choice of 1 slice Pepperoni, Cheese or Sausage Pizza, Carrot Sticks with Ranch, Bunny Punch and an Easter Treat! Snap some adorable photos and make magical memories with everyone’s favorite fluffy friend. Stick around for the Easter Egg Hunt happening in Spellerberg Park!

We are egg-cited to be hosting Egg Dash this year! FAMILY PARK

Get up and shake off the winter blues with Sioux Falls Parks and Rec. Join us for our Step Into Spring 5K and walk. Whether you are an experienced runner or have a couch to 5K resolution, everyone is welcome to join us in our 5K around Family Park. Clearly marked turning points will be designated along the route to assist and guide runners. Runners who register prior to March 13 will be rewarded with a Spring Fun Run/Walk T-shirt. Please note that runner check-in and day-of registration will commence at 9 A.M.

(SAIL)

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER

AGES: 65+

SAIL is a 12-week strength, balance, and fitness program designed for adults 65+. Participants improve balance and mobility, reduce their risk of falls, and improve their quality of life while having fun meeting new people. Experienced and skillful instructors teach each class. Classes are tailored to active older adults who wish to maintain or increase their fitness level. Chairs will be available as needed. It is recommended that you attend two classes per week. Please bring a bottle of water along to class. Registration required.

This experience is for those who are not able to explore our beautiful bike trail system on their own. Round-trip golf cart tours will allow you to experience stunning views of the river, parks, and wildlife. Participants must be able to transfer onto and off the golf carts independently. Tours leave on the hour, so please arrive early. Registration required.

Track and field, golf, bowling, pickleball, and many more activities designed just for seniors are open for participation. Join your friends for fun, competition, and fellowship during the most active days of the summer. Local competition leads to state and national games. Registration required. The Front Porch is a perfect place to meet new people or gather with friends. The Front Porch will offer a variety of activities on a drop-in basis. No need to register, unless specified. You may also bring along your own friends and games. Our activities will include crossword puzzles, card games, board games, and jigsaw puzzles. You can also join us for the activity of the day. Make sure to stop by the Front Porch at the Tuthill House and socialize a bit!

FULL MOON HIKE

GREAT BEAR RECREATION PARK

Come out and see Sioux Falls under the full moon glow! This full moon is the Worm Moon, the final full moon of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Participants must be able to hike one mile on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight if you wish.

Whether you enjoy fishing or would like to learn how to fish, this program is for you! Fishing is a great way to relieve stress while spending time outdoors. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will provide all the necessary equipment for you and your family to have an enjoyable evening of fishing. Poles and bait will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals 16 and older must have a valid South Dakota fishing license. No registration required.

Join us for a trail egg hunt! This springtime egg hunt is for the whole family to enjoy. As you walk the trail along the lake of Great Bear, you will search for eggs with special prizes inside. The egg hunt will start promptly at 6:30 P.M. Please sign up all individuals that will be collecting eggs.

Join us for our third annual Doggie Egg Hunt with prizes for all sizes! Easter eggs will have a piece of paper inside that will correlate to a prize at our prize table! You and your dog may collect up to five eggs for up to 10 prizes! Enjoy dog crafts and photo opportunities throughout the event. The egg hunt will start PROMPTLY at 1 P.M.

The Westside Recreation Center is a 74,000 square foot facility dedicated to indoor recreation in Sioux Falls. This recreation center brings people together and supports overall community well-being. Our amenities and features include:

• Indoor aquatic facility with 15M pool, slide, hot tub

• Sport courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and racquetball

2025 Pass & Pricing Structure

The Westside Recreation Center has flexible options for everyone. Based on City Council approval on August 13, 2024, the following rates will go into effect on January 1, 2025. Visit the Westside Recreation Center in-person to register for a pass.

Couple

Two individuals, one of whom is over the age of 18, who reside in the same household.

Family

Immediate family members living in the household, including step and foster children. This does not mean extended family such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and children older than 18 years of age.

*Rates will not be discounted for periodic shutdowns for maintenance purposes.

The daily pass allows you access to the facility from the time of purchase to the end of the operation day. Does not include Midco® Aquatic Center.

DISCOUNTED RATE DEFINITIONS

• Senior: An individual 65 years or older.

Shall be effective for 30 days from time of purchase, does not include Midco® Aquatic Center.

• Veteran: An individual who has or is currently serving in the United States military and must provide documentation of service such as a Military ID.

• Reduced-Income: Families/individuals who are residents of Sioux Falls and actively receive reduced or free school lunches, or who actively receive Medicaid benefits.

Shall be effective all operational days at the Westside Recreation Center. Does not include the Midco® Aquatic Center.

Coming soon! Jacobson Plaza at the Falls will be a year-round destination for indoor and outdoor recreation. Amenities and features include:

Dive into fun and fitness! From engaging swim workouts and aquatic games to skill-building exercises and water-based challenges, there’s something for everyone. These activities are designed to keep kids active, build confidence in the water, and encourage a healthy, energetic lifestyle—all while having a blast with friends. Join us and make a splash!

BASIC ARTHRITIS AQUATICS

The basic program begins with exercises to improve range of motion, muscle strength, balance, and endurance. As participants’ joint flexibility and pain improve, more functional activities are added. The class is held once a week in the warm water pool. If you’ve recently had a joint replacement or are planning to have one, this class is for you. Water shoes are recommended. Registration is required and limited to 12 per class.

DEEP WATER: AQUA FIT

MIDCO® AQUATIC CENTER

AGES: 18+

This deep water fitness class is meant to be high-intensity! Don’t let the deep water be a fear—everyone will be wearing a flotation belt during class. This is a fun and challenging class that is full of cardio, muscular, and respiratory endurance. You may use flippers, kickboards, gloves, noodles, and other equipment during class. You are sure to sweat, but you don’t need to get your hair wet! Registration required.

This class teaches beginners the basics of competitive diving. Kids practice approaches, jumps in various body positions, forward dives, and back dives. To participate in this class, swimmers must be comfortable swimming in deep water without help. Registration required.

Test your luck at the Midco® Aquatic Center! Raffle tickets will be given when swimmers complete the following milestones: 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 3,000, and 5,000 yards. Should a swimmer hit all six milestones in one swim, tickets will be given for each milestone hit. The more you swim, the more chances to win! The $10 covers admission for all five days of the event and a t-shirt. Register by March 1 to guarantee a t-shirt.

Develop increased flexibility and range of motion through this water aerobics workout that focuses on conditioning, strength, endurance, and stretching. The class takes place in the Sanford Health® 50 Meter Pool, with a cool-down session in our warm water pool. Equipment may be used. Registration required.

Join us for a fun story and learn about how to float like Josh the Baby Otter. According to the Red Cross, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause of death for children ages 5-14. The book Josh the Baby Otter was written to help prevent drowning and empower kids to learn to swim and float. During this fun and educational event, children listen to a read-aloud of the book, recite the water pledge, and go swimming! Treats provided in the lobby after the read aloud. Register by Feb 25 to receive a copy of the book, a coloring book, and a sticker. Registration required.

This warm water fitness class is sure to keep you on your toes! We will engage your entire body using the water and equipment for resistance. This is YOUR workout, so it can be light – high intensity depending on what you are looking for. The instructor is here to push you and guide you but know that YOU are ultimately in control of your moves. We will use noodles, fans, gloves, and other equipment to keep the class fun and engaging. AQUATHON: SWIM & RUN

AGES: 9+

Ready to try something new? Join us for our Aquathon: a triathlon without biking. Individuals or teams of 2 will complete a distance swim and a distance run. We have a Short Category: 500 yard swim, 1 mile run; Medium Category, 1000 yard swim, 2 mile run, and the Iron Category: 1 mile swim, 5K run. Winners and runners-up from each division and age group will be recognized. All levels of experience welcome. Upon registering, you will answer a few questions about your experience level to assist staff in placing you in the proper wave of participants. Register by March 31 to receive a T-shirt.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

AGES: 15+

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation wants YOU to work as a certified lifeguard during our year-round swimming season. We’re excited about building a great team of professional lifeguards. This course is a blended learning course format (19.5 hours in person, 7.5 hours online). The prerequisites for this course include being 15 years of age and having passed the pre-course swimming skills test.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR COURSE

AGES: 15+

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) training prepares you to teach children and adults water safety, survival, and swimming skills. Water Safety Instructors are in high demand, and teaching people to swim is a fun and rewarding part-time job for people of all ages. Upon completing the WSI course, participants will be certified to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons. This blended learning course includes an online portion (which must be completed before the first day of class) and an instructor-led classroom instruction skills session.

INDOOR SWIMMING LESSONS

Midco® Aquatic Center is a Gold Level provider of American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses.

Swimming lessons will be available for all ages and abilities. Not only does learning to swim allow for you to be safe in and around the water, it also has many other added benefits. Learning to swim provides a lifelong skill that can provide fitness opportunities, improve your health, provide strength and coordination, and provide confidence in the water and motivation to continue to improve skill proficiencies.

• For first-time swim pass buyers and renewal of a non-full-priced swim pass, visit Midco ® Aquatic Center (or during summer season at any outdoor aquatic facility with exception of McKennan wading pool).

• All family members on the swim pass must have their photos taken.
