BIOGRAPHY

Sirina is currently an Architecture student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on track to graduate in 2021. She was born and raised in Hong Kong for 11 years before she moved to Cupertino, California for middle and high school. Her passions were always more geared towards the artistic side. She dances, plays a Chinese instrument at senior homes as a volunteer, and she loves working with kids at an art school back at home. Even though she hasn’t really gotten the chance to pick up any of those in college, being able to express her creativity and working at studios for architecture has definitely satisfied her artistic needs here in college.

DESIGN CONCEPT The main goal for designing an institutional building for the international Society for Art, Architecture and Archaeology of Rome (ISAR) is to encourage the education of Rome’s cultural heritage by the public. The ISAR campus is to prioritize the user experience of pedestrians with it’s intentional L shaped form, framing the sidewalk and the bridge over the Tiber River. While the public is able to enjoy the public facilities of the first two floors of the ISAR campus, the exhibition is also located by the river’s edge to allow the public to enjoy and appreciate the Tiber river.

DESIGN CONCEPT Walking to the building from the mission, along Monterey Street, I wanted to design the museum with a leaning posture. I wanted to design the west of the museum most engaging because it was going to be viewed by those driving, turning the corner to Broad Street. As they approach my museum that has a leaning sensation over them and turn the corner, they would be able to experience the other side of the building that is more expressive. By emphasizes my posture, Aggressive, on the corner of the property line, I hope to draw curiosity from drivers but also create a suspense for pedestrians that are approaching from the other side of the museum.

SYNTHETIC FUTURES LAB [ S A N L U I S O B I S P O, CA ]

FA L L 2017

To design a Synthetic Futures Lab in the space between Giuseppe’s Cucina Rustica and the kitchen supply shop next to it. The space is also known as the Rose alley, which is an alley that’s 12 ft by 100 ft.

DESIGN CONCEPT

SITE PLAN

The methodology I used as an inspiration for my Synthetic Futures Lab design was to juxtapose the noun conglomerate and the feeling of expansive. With curves to bring natural light into t he building. In addition to the subtractive element of concaving and convexing to create an atrium at the center of the building. I experimented with the intersection of curves to help create concaving and convexing curves that would allow natural light to bounce inside the space as well as being a driving factor of how the interior space was carved out. Although the building form is a product of convect and concave curves piecing together, it allows for light to fill up the space with the open atrium in the center as well as the curved floor plates.
