SISTAH Talk Feature: Living in God's Favor with Robin Hopson

REVEREND ROBIN HOPSON is a woman of God who has a passion for ministering to women and seeing the strengths of women being encouraged and built up through one another.

Reverend Robin accepted Christ at the age of 13 years old at New Christian Church (Late Bishop Robert L. Bowie) and sang with the Youth Praise Team, directed the Children’s Choir, and ministered with the Youth and Women’s Choirs.

At the age of 19 years old, Reverend Robin accepted the Call to a preaching ministry under the leadership of Pastor David L. Peake (So Much the More Ministries) where she served as Staff Minister, Adjutant and Secretary. Later Reverend Robin was licensed in May 2013 by Pastor James C. Jones (Abundant LIFE Christian Church f/k/a Williams Chapel “Chapel LIFE” Church). While serving at Abundant LIFE, Reverend Robin has ministered as an Associate Minister and as Minister of Assimilation and has served in various capacities through the DIVAs Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, and Youth Ministry.

Reverend Robin is the mother of one beautiful daughter while being an entrepreneur owning her own brand, “Styled by Favor”. She is also an independent Paparazzi Jewelry Consultant and Personal Stylist. Currently, Reverend Robin also holds secular employment as a Team Leader for the Closing Team at Quicken Loans.

Reverend Robin’s testimony is “When I counted myself unworthy, God reminded me of King David and though many have counted me out, God counted me in!”

SISTAH Talk: Tell us about Styled by Favor?

Styled by Favor is a personal styling and shopping company that desires to style our clients with the latest fashion and trends, creating fashion styles for women of all shapes and sizes. The look we create for our clients will have them stepping out in style with their heads held high and a smile on their face!

SISTAH Talk: How did you start Styled by Favor?

Styled by Favor was rebranded in January 2021 originally starting as Styled by Deanna Danielle in 2019. The business was started with jewelry accessories as an independent consultant for Paparazzi. With our accessories we put together full styles before rebranding and focusing on the clients styling needs.

SISTAH Talk: What was your greatest obstacle in establishing your business and how did you overcome it?

My biggest struggle was listening to others! Listening to others and not following my vision for the company put me in the position to spend unnecessary finances, target the wrong audience and not devote my time and myself to my craft. Once I took a step back and begin to follow the vision that God gave me is when I was able to ignore the opinions of others and work towards the goals I had for the company. I was also introduced to a business coach Jo The-Giant who helped me bring structure and accountability to my business which also helped me overcome this obstacle.

SISTAH Talk: How would you encourage others who what to start their own business?

I would say get a business coach! You need someone who can pour knowledge into you! Since I have been working with Jo The-Giant my mindset has completely changed. I learned how to properly set my business up, I have been working on business credit, learning marketing strategy etc. People will tell you it doesn’t take all that but I’m here to tell you it really does! It’s important that you make sure you have the tools and resources to have a legally functioning business that has reoccurring revenue and trust me you won’t get all that information on your own!

I would also encourage you to follow your vision and your plan, its ok to listen to someone’s opinion but do not alter your vision to accommodate what someone else thinks you should do because it’s what they would do! Remember your vision for your business was given to you not them!

SISTAH Talk: Please share encouragement for those who aspire to start their own business

Starting a business takes time, effort, and patience. You have to offer yourself grace knowing it will not evolve over night. During your process you may encounter some bumps in the road and that is ok, you have some options; 1, you can stop and never move forward. 2, you can go around it and take the wrong turn or 3, you can ride over it knowing that this small bump was created for you to learn, be strengthened and grow, while helping you take a moment to pause and think before placing your feet on the gas, providing you a clear vision in order to reach your destiny.
