Google Updates Its Translate Algorithm To Improve The Gender-Specific Information Results
Google officially confirmed to change its Google translate algorithm to get rid of gender bias in translations. The new algorithm is entirely based on deep learning and artificial intelligence. The one and only focus behind this big change is to remove inadvertent gender bias results that have been offered until now. Earlier lots of customers have criticized this fact and reported that this app often defaulted to masculine names for some languages. While technologies like AI and companies like augmented reality app development company are getting lots of attention, this latest update of the Google will for sure take over all the attention at least for some time.
Lots of computer scientists have been working to advance artificial intelligence of the machines from a long time but, Google’s tech elite has beaten all of them with this recent update. As per the sources with the help of this change in Google translate algorithm machines will now become more specific to deliver gender-based info. Computers will look at the different languages as more than just a bunch of words. Google’s product manager James Kuczmarski posted a blog in which he stated: “Over the course of this year, there’s been an effort across Google to promote fairness and reduce bias in machine learning.” He also stated “The Google translate app until now provided only one translation for a query, often choosing the masculine word for terms like “doctor,” and the feminine word for “nurse,” for example. But with the new changes in place, “now you’ll get both a feminine and masculine translation for a single word — like ‘surgeon’. This update is currently limited to some languages like English, Korean, French, Turkish, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish,”. However, Google will soon cover the remaining languages as it is planning to upgrade this feature in future and make it more gender-neutral programming to additional languages “and quickly address gender bias in features like query auto-complete”. With this new approach, translations on Google translate app become more significant and reflect natural language in an enhanced way. The growing world is full of innovative elements like Augmented reality android apps and in such immersive
tech world, it will be interesting to see how Google will shape its user experience with its latest and upcoming updates.
