A Message from the Director Greetings! Anne, in the classic Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, exclaims, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!” Anne, you speak to my soul! For many of us, the fall season signifies a new beginning. Whether it’s a new school year, activities, an adventure or simply the change in temperature and scenery, autumn represents transformation, beauty and opportunity. Make this fall season a memorable one by taking time to learn something new through SIUE. Recently added opportunities include “Spanish for Travelers,” “Beginning Guitar” and “Composting.” The Hospice Conference, our popular drone pilot preparation, beginning grant writing and Microsoft Excel courses highlight only a few of our numerous professional development opportunities. The
Wednesday Lifelong Learning Speaker Series begins August 28 featuring thought-provoking lectures from the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions 2019 publication. These activities are even better when shared, so don’t hesitate to invite friends or family members to join you in trying something new during this upcoming session. Please browse our catalog and reach out to the Office of Educational Outreach with your comments or ideas for new course offerings. After all, in the words of L.M. Montgomery, “You’re never safe from being surprised until you’re dead.” Our hope is that taking a non-credit course this fall will surprise, delight and inspire you. Best wishes for a wonderful conclusion to 2019! Mary Ettling Interim Director 618-650-3215 mawalke@siue.edu
