Objectives • Three things to remember • Expectations in academic advising • General Education at SIUE
Three Things to Remember 1. Students must meet with their advisor at least once per semester. 2. Meet early! • September/October in the fall • February/March in the spring
3. Your advisor is a resource.
Advising is a Collaborative Relationship • Discuss academic and career goals • Help identify possible degree options • Plan coursework to make the most of your time • Provide resources and campus referrals to maximize success • Help with the adjustment to college life • Graduation is the goal!

General Education • Encourages students to develop written and oral communication skills, as well as critical thinking and reasoning skills. • Exposes students to diverse subjects and populations. • Provides a broad knowledge base.
General Education Includes: • First Semester Transition Course • Foundations • Breadth • Experiences • Interdisciplinary Studies
