Health Professions • Students must meet the requirements for their academic undergraduate major, as well as the prerequisite requirements for the professional program they are seeking. • While not required, it is highly encouraged that students seeking a health profession complete the required prerequisite science and mathematics courses, along with the recommended courses for their specific program at a four-year university. • It is highly recommended not to do the bare minimum. All professional schools are going to be looking for the “and what else…”
Health Professions In order to be a competitive applicant, students should plan to do the following as they prepare for the health profession: • Become involved with student organizations and request to be part of the Listserv related to the academic major and health profession of interest • Plan to shadow a licensed professional in your area of interest • Volunteer in your area of interest • Take advantage of any research or internship opportunities available • Continuously work on your personal statement for professional school • Take a minimum of 15 hours of academic coursework each semester
Health Professions • Have a minimum average GPA of 3.5-3.6, both cumulative and in sciences and mathematics • Score at least the national average on the admission exam for the respective health profession: • PCAT = 400; Writing Subtest mean = 4 • MCAT = 508; Students need to get at least a 500 to even be considered • DAT = 19; Perceptual Ability = 20
