UNIVERSITY HOUSING

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

 1st time, 1st year students, who graduated high school in the last year, must live on campus unless they complete an approved exemption

 Students who would like to be exempt should complete the request form

 To apply for housing or request an exemption, please visit siue.edu/myhousing

 If you have a slip in your nametag, we don’t know your housing plans yet

HOW TO PREPARE

 Apply as soon as possible siue.edu/housing/apply

 Assignments will be sent to your SIUE email account in early July

 Visit siue.edu/housing/move-in

 Connect with your roommate and suitemates

 Housing payment is included with first bill from the Bursar’s office

 New student move-in is August 16 & 17

 Instructions to reserve a move-in time slot will be sent with housing assignment

WHAT TO BRING

 Twin or Full Extra Long sheets

 Refrigerators: 5.0 cubic feet or less (rental program available)

 Computer: Wireless internet and data jacks are available

 Ethernet cord

 Cleaning products (All residents are responsible for cleaning their room and bathroom)

 Photos and Décor

Pets (aquarium fish are permitted)

Alcohol containers, empty or full

Cooking appliances with open elements

Adhesive LED lights

Liquid bleach

Wireless printers (our network requires a cable connection)

LIVING WITH A ROOMMATE

 Start having a conversation about expectations, particularly about sleeping and guests

 Realize this is a shared space, talk about how you want to set up the room and what you plan to bring

 A healthy, successful roommate relationship starts with respecting and talking with one another

LIVING IN A COMMUNITY

 Housing is not only a place to live and have community, but also a place to study and pursue academic interests

 Maintaining a positive environment for students is of utmost importance

 Know the community noise guidelines

 Contact the Commons Desk of your residence to report a noise issue you cannot resolve civilly

 The Housing Living Guide is a student handbook that includes general housing information, contract and room information, community guidelines, standards for student conduct, safety and security guidelines, and more.

GUESTS

 Guests are required to be escorted by the resident at all times while they are in a housing building (parents/guardians included)

 Guests are required to leave an ID at the front desk

 Roommates work together to manage overnight guest expectations

 Roommates are required to sign an overnight guest agreement

 Hosts are responsible for guests and their behavior

MAINTENANCE REQUESTS

 University Housing Facilities Management (UHFM) responds to all maintenance requests

 93% of work order requests are completed within 3 business days

 45% are completed in the same business day they were submitted

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 Area Council

 Area Councils are groups in each living area that want to impact their residential experience by planning events for the residents, developing leadership skills and creating lasting memories for this year

 Residence Housing Association (RHA)

 Residence Housing Association (RHA) is the voice and representation of residential students at SIUE

 RHA aims to improve the student living environment through both creative programming and policy influence

MEAL PLANS

Meal plan A, B and C are considered residential meal plans and are 60/40

Can be used at any of the dining facilities on campus and are tax free

When/if you run out of your residential meal plan, you can add Cougar Bucks

Residential students can have both Cougar Bucks and a residential meal

Cougar Bucks deposits may be made online, in the Bursar’s office or using the “GET” phone app
