ountry music stars David Frizzell and Amy Clawson will be in concert Thursday, June 27, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. Each is a powerful, inspiring performer in their own right, but their collaborations and unique harmonies are favorites of country music listeners around the world. There will be a meet-and-greet with Frizzell and Clawson for ticket holders at 6:30 p.m. Clawson will kick-off the exciting evening at 7:30, Frizzell will perform after a short intermission, and Clawson will join Frizzell for part of his show. The duo won the European Country Music Association’s collaboration of the year for the “Frizzell and Friends” album. Tickets are $24.99, and $14.99 for 18 and under, at the box office at 715 Quince St., EventCenter.org or 541997-1994. “This will be a tremendous show,” says Florence Events Center Director Kevin Rhodes. “Individually, David and Amy are excellent performers with a great playlist of traditional country music; and when they collaborate, it’s incredible. You will have a great evening.” Frizzell is both legacy and legend of an unmistakable voice and a captivating style, with a haunting resemblance to his older brother, the ultimate stylist, Lefty Frizzell. David’s
life and his career are tightly woven into the fabric of country music history and lore. The Frizzells share that raw, forlorn quality essential to the interpretation of traditional country themes, but David’s voice is even more resonant and nuanced; a perfect instrument for conveying the deepest emotion of every lyric. Writing, producing, touring, and performing, he is a timeless and tireless entertainer who continues to share his many gifts to the delight of fans old and new across the U.S. and throughout the world. Frizzell appeared regularly on Buck Owens’ All American TV Show, had his first number-one country hit with “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a duet with Shelly West that won the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year and Vocal Duet of the Year, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group, and was featured in Clint Eastwood’s film “Any Which Way You Can.” Frizzell also scored number one Country Single with “I’m Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home.” Clawson, an Arkansas native who lives in Florence, started her successful professional career as a teen. She grew up on country music with influences from rock, gospel and blues which colored the sound that eventually was to become so
uniquely hers. Her shows span traditional country, rockin’ original country, and gospel — her favorite part of the show. Clawson’s exciting career is highlighted by performances alongside legendary entertainers like Frizzell, Blake Shelton, FloridaGeorgia Line, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Alabama and many others. Clawson has hit number one on the charts with the duet “Why Wasn’t It Me?” with Frizzell and as a solo act with, “Cowboy Up.” Her most recent singles include “She Loved” and “Still Breathing.” She was instrumental in establishing the Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival, and the Mountain Home and Country Crossings Music Festivals with cohost Pam Tillis. “Amy has been awesome to work with in building a new series of concerts here at the FEC,” Rhodes said. “The first, the Country Artists Tribute show (with Eric Church, Taylor Swift, and Kenny Chesney impersonators) was a success. This one, with David and Amy, will be excellent for fans of more traditional country music. I’m looking forward to producing two or three more with her this year and can’t wait to announce who is coming next to the Florence Events Center.” For tickets, information and artist profiles, visit EventCenter.org.

An Event Honoring Life In an age of easy activism fueled largely by issues-oriented hashtags and feel-good memes on social media, Florence 4 Life presents pro-life people in Florence with an opportunity to speak with one voice and do something tangible. It’s a means of challenging the status quo about one of the most serious issues of our time. The Florence 4 Life event on Saturday, June 22, starts at 11 a.m. at the Florence Events Center and will provide options for listening, learning, sharing and demonstrating love for life. In recent years, scientific advances have reaffirmed that an embryo in the womb is a distinct human life with unique DNA and other distinct markers. And, in theology, Jeremiah 1:5 confirms that we are all set with a purpose even before being born: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew
you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” You don’t have to be a scientist or a theologian to support the conviction that life in the womb is precious and worthy of protection. “I love the fact that I can join people that share the same passion for women and their right to choose life for their babies,” says Pam Henry, one of the event organizers. “We don’t yell, we aren’t angry, and we value the woman and her baby from the very beginning.” If it’s simply not possible for you to attend this June event in person, there are still ways to make a difference for life — through prayer, through involvement with local pregnancy care centers, and through supporting pro-life organizations. For ideas and inspiration, search Florence4Life on Facebook.
