FRAUDVILLE'S LIP-SYNC PERFORMANCES COME TO THE FEC

T

he Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County will hold the ninth annual Fraudville fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. Guests will be entertained with food, drink and lip-sync performances by bands sponsored and performed by community groups. In addition, there will be both live and silent auctions, interactive games and the legendary Fraudville songand-dance routines. These lip-sync performances take on pop songs, classic rock, crowd favorites and more — such as last year’s hilarious “Lunch Lady Land” (based on the classic Adam Sandler and Chris Farley sketch on Saturday Night Live). Performances will be rated by a panel of judges

and popular vote, with all proceeds going to support Florence’s local Boys and Girls Club. Lip sync competitors are from local businesses and organizations that want to support the Boys and Girls Club and have some fun at the same

FlorenceFest ’19 seeks artists for juried ‘Jazz, Art, Wine’ show

The Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) is inviting all artists to participate in the third annual “FlorenceFest: Jazz, Art and Wine” held at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., on April 26 and 27. This event continues to grow in popularity and over 800 people are expected to attend. Each year, about 35 percent of the artwork is sold. This year’s event will be highlighted by talented jazz musicians and outstanding wine from throughout the state. Selection for the exhibit will be made by juror Karin Clarke. Clarke has been the owner and director of Karin Clarke Gallery in downtown Eugene for the past 16 years and has established herself as a respected figure in the Oregon art scene. She opened the gallery with the goal of creating museum quality shows to recognize regional artists, including the work of her parents, artists Margaret Coe and the late Mark Clarke. In that time, she’s organized over 200 exhibits and the gallery has gained a stellar reputation for showing major contemporary artists of Oregon. In addition, Clarke regularly curates from the estates of some of Oregon’s most sought-after artists, like Rick Bartow, Nelson Sandgren, David McCosh, Carl Hall and numerous others. In 2016, she founded the very successful Eugene Biennial regional juried show. Clarke has a strong background in studio

arts, art history, exhibit design and art appraisal. She has exhibited her own artwork, and in July of 2018, had a solo show of her recent plein air oil paintings of Italy. She also serves regularly as an art juror and on art selection committees in our region, including Art About Agriculture, All Around Oregon Annual, and The Eugene Biennial. In 2017, she supported the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art curators in preparation for a six-month exhibit of her parents’ work called “Our Lives in Paint.” She has won awards for her own artwork as well as in her business, including the Downtown Eugene Excellence for Arts & Culture Award (2007) and Lane Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2011). There will be a total $2,500 in prize money and awards given for participants in FlorenceFest ‘19. The deadline for entries is Feb. 24, 2019. Three overall winners will be selected with cash prizes from $250 to $1,000 for the third- to first-place winners. In addition, three separate cash awards of $250 each will be given for outstanding work in 2D, 3D, and photography. There will also be a “People’s Choice” selection, which will be awarded based on votes of those in attendance. For more information, visit callforentry. org or email fraaflorencefest@gmail.com.

his month’s Spotlight Volunteer is Micheline Perry, who moved to Florence almost three years ago from Santa Barbara, Calif. She distinctly remembers the day because it was April Fool’s Day in 2016. Soon after moving here, Micheline started volunteering at Siuslaw Elementary School where she works in a thirdgrade classroom helping with math, reading and art studies. She also mentors an 11-yearold, which she enjoys. Along with volunteering as a theater assistant at the

FEC, Micheline drives local seniors to and from appointments and errands. Micheline says the thing she enjoys most about volunteering at the Florence Event Center is meeting new people. When not volunteering her time, Micheline enjoys traveling in her RV with her cat Smokey, beachcombing, dancing, designing jewelry, reading and helping others.
