n Last Resort Player’s “Mamma Mia!,” Wendy Krause plays Donna Sheridan, the central character. Wendy was two years old when her dad sat her on top of a piano at a family wedding, gave her the microphone and her mom accompanied her while she sang. She cried when they took the microphone away. The rest, as they say, is history. She is multi-talented and played baritone sax in a studio jazz band in college. She’s a realtor now at TR Hunter and loves spending most of her time with daughters Alayna and Jasmine. Asked what show she would most like to do she replied, “I would love to do ‘Hello Dolly.’ I’m already singing the song in my head, imagining myself walking down the grand staircase in that stunning ball gown. That would be one amazing moment.” Her favorite stage show? “‘Wicked’ made me cry, twice, but so did ‘Les Mis’ and I have to admit, CROW’s performance of ‘The Wiz’ this last year was pretty special.” Her favorite line in “Mamma Mia!” is “Age cannot wither her” spoken by Harry Bright after seeing her character Donna. “Wouldn’t we all like to hear that?” About her fellow actors she notes, “Jason Wood makes me swoon as Sam Carmichael. He’s so good. And my sister, Brynne, as Sophie. She has this wonderful tenderness and genu-

Art Show features artists influential to Florence

An art show and public reception showcasing the original works of two talented artists will be presented in Florence Events Center’s (FEC) Gallery Five on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. Award-winning artist Bernie Herr is well known to the Oregon coast art community, having been a driving force with his wife Lu in the creation of a vibrant showcase for local artists at the FEC. When the FEC first opened, its emphasis was theater arts. Bernie and Lu, along with other visual artists, represented a vocal force to create Gallery One and later Gallery Five. Many wonderful art shows have resulted from their efforts artists. Bernie began painting in oils with a realistic edge, evolving over the years to a preference of aqueous media. He worked in or combined watercolor, gouache, inks or acrylics to create a truly unique body of abstract and eclectic work, which is rich in color,

vibrant and diverse in subject matter. Over the years, Bernie received many awards for his art. Among the venues are Celebrate Arts, Emerald Art Center and the Watercolor Society of Oregon where he won six awards and achieved gold levels. His work is in private collections in more than a dozen states, including Hawaii, and also in Canada, Japan, Poland and Israel. Having lived in Florence since 1984, Bernie and Lu recently moved from their home and studio in Greentrees to a retirement center in Eugene, leaving behind a large collection of framed original artwork, greeting cards and ceramic tiles featuring his iconic images. A portion of the proceeds from

the sale of his works will be donated to the Friends of the FEC “First Impressions” Youth Art program. Also showing are the original oil paintings of the late Wolfgang Emil Hofmann. Born in Dresden, Germany, Wolfgang served in the U.S. Army before eventually retiring in Florence with his wife of 60 years, Dora. They were 20-year residents of Florentine Estates. A skilled landscape painter, Wolfgang was entirely self-taught and drew great inspiration from nature and coastal ranges. The body of work being displayed showcases his passion for capturing images of natural wonders in his art and reflects a lifelong love of gardening and being in the great outdoors. Sponsored by Oregon Pacific Bank, this show and reception is produced in collaboration with Jo Beaudreau of BeauxArts Fine Art Materials and Gallery and Cindy Wobbe Estate Sales.
