St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church There is a wonderful place behind St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where the faithful meet to worship during this time of COVID-19. Florence’s dry and sunny summer and fall weather makes it a wonderful place to hear the Word of God and enter into fellowship with others, while maintaining a six-foot separation.

In peace, one can meditate while walking the Labyrinth or sitting on a bench in the Memorial Garden.

All this is hidden from view at 19th and Tamarack Streets on the east side of Spruce Street, deep in the neighborhood behind the Grocery Outlet Shopping Center.

St. Andrew’s is a good place, a comfortable place, a place illed with the joy and wonder of being God’s people together on the beautiful Oregon coast. At the heart of the Church is the Gospel of our Lord Jesus, the Christ, and in Him there is peace and joy. At this time our Sunday worship is held at 9:00 AM, outdoors, with masks and appropriate distances. Father Frazer Crocker, (retired, but still serving God and the congregation after sixty years as a priest), is oficiating, while the Search Committee works to ind a new Vicar for St. Andrew’s. He also celebrates on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM, inside the church, assisted by Deacon Steve Avery, also retired but very much present!

CROSS ROAD ASSEMBLY OF GOD

C

ross Road Assembly is a thriving and active church in Florence, founded in 1935 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God in 1945. It has been an active Christian influence in Florence and the Siuslaw Valley all 84 years of her history. Its mission is to be a point of connection between Christ and the world. To engage the community with a relevant message of hope, grace and love. To be a sending point of teaching, training and launching people into life experience ministry in the workplace, school and community. Cross Road has a variety of ministries that reach the youngest to the oldest in the community. It also has an excellent team of workers to teach a variety of ages the life changing message of Christ. The church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, the largest

Protestant Pentecostal Movement in the world. Its members are actively involved in missions that reach and teach people both at home and around the world.

You can expect friendly and authentic people, engaging and relevant music and worship, compelling preaching from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. You can expect to find a place where cre-

ativity and fellowship come together to worship God in new and exciting ways. You can expect to be encouraged, challenged, excited and, most importantly, welcomed. We strive to live out the Biblical command to love God, each other and our neighbors, following Jesus Christ not only through our words, but also through the lives we lead. Food Backpack for Kids is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Florence, Oregon. We are parents and grandparents from Florence and Mapleton who deeply care and refuse to see any child going through dumpsters for food. Food Backpack for Kids is a Kid-Friendly School-based Program. For more information, call Cross Road Assembly at 541-997-3533 or attend its services Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. & 11 a.m. and mid-week Family Connection every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

NEW LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH For people looking for a church home that is friendly, spiritual, and dedicated to the principles and teachings of Christ, New Life Lutheran is an excellent choice. While maintaining strong spiritual teaching and Christian support to the congregation, New Life Lutheran is dedicated to serving the community through outreach. The church was in the grass roots movement to establish “Food Share” to feed the hungry of Florence. Food Share is now located on church property and is thriving. “Habitat for Humanity “ is another local service that the church helped pioneer. Habitat has built and will continue to build houses for the poor.

This enables many young families to afford homes and even help build them! New Life Lutheran established the first Christian preschool in Florence in the 70’s. It was called “Alice Brauer Christian School.” The school is now called “Bright Beginnings” and is operated by Kristy Ryan. Sermons can be viewed live at https/ youtube/jcTJVW-6ps. Sunday services are at 10:30 a.m. Social distancing and wearing of masks are practiced during the pandemic You can access the Church newsletter. “The Vine” on line at www.lutheranchurchflorence. com.

New Life Lutheran is located at 21st and Spruce Streets. For more information call 541-997-8113

Heart for the Community Chartered in 1982, Florence United Methodist Church has always had an “outsize” impact in its community. The people who worship in the little building with the steeple on Second and Kingwood are leaders in scores of community organizations – from Habitat for Humanity to the Siuslaw Public Library. Its own sponsored ministry, Free Lunch, a twiceweekly fixture for more than 25 years, has switched gears to provide vouchers for meals at Subway during COVID19 restrictions on use of its buildings. While not meeting in person in our church building since March, Florence UMC is being “church” in new ways, including on-line, on-demand weekly worship and a virtual coffee hour every Sunday on Zoom. The church provides instructional and devotional materials, including video, on the Internet at no cost. There’s even a virtual Vacation Bible School. Florence United Methodist is a proud member of the Reconciling Ministries Network, an international movement within the Methodist Church, to affirm, support and welcome all under the LGBTQIA umbrella. It is truly a church of open minds, open hearts, open doors.
