St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
St. Andrew’s may not be the first church building one sees when driving through or around Florence. It is tucked away at the intersection of 19th and Tamarack Streets on the east side of Spruce Street. But a GPS will certainly find it and you will be glad when you arrive there to explore the grounds and take a meditative stroll around the Labyrinth. St. Andrew’s is a good place, a pleasant place, a place filled with the joy and wonder of being God’s people. Moreover, St. Andrew’s is beginning a new life with a new Vicar and we hope you will want to be a part of this transition. Father Angelito (“Lito”) Cubillas was called to Florence from Arizona, where he was the Vicar of St. Luke’s in the Mountain in Phoenix. Fr. Lito was born and raised in the Philippines. He was a Roman Catholic priest for 29 years serving in the Philippines and in southern California and, after a period of discernment, he was ordained an Episcopal priest in 2015. During his career he has been a rector, pastor and teacher. He has dedicated his life’s work to assisting those who are suffering and in poverty. While at St. Luke’s in Phoenix, he offered services in both English and Spanish and we would love to see that happen in Florence! He finds great joy in music and plays the guitar, ukulele, bass guitar and piano. He also loves to sketch with pencils when he has time. He has facility in seven languages: English, Spanish, Latin, Italian, Cebuano, Butuanon, and Tagalog. His wife, Louise, is a psychologist and also a musician. Both are wonderful, caring people who consider their church family as their own.
St. Andrew’s congregation looks forward with excitement to the changes Father Lito will bring as he and Louise adjust to Florence. Along with the talents of its new Vicar, St. Andrews offers many opportunities to live your Christian principles in the real world. We work to make real the mandate that Jesus Christ is the Lord of all, pushes no one away, and listens to all. We work to feed those who are hungry and make time for the poor and the homeless. We truly believe there is little room in our world for one Christian group to think it is better than another. At the heart of St. Andrew’s is the Gospel of our Lord Jesus, the Christ and in Him there is peace and joy. So, if you are tired of the chaos and uncertainty of our world come to St. Andrew’s on a Sunday and be at peace. Someone will be waiting at our red doors of welcome to greet you and make you feel at home. Join us for worship at 8:00, or at 10:00 if you prefer a service with music. There is an additional worship service on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM. The Sacrament of Holy Communion (the Eucharist) is celebrated at nearly all services. We look forward to seeing you at St. Andrews.

CROSS ROAD ASSEMBLY OF GOD
C
ross Road Assembly is a thriving and active church in Florence, founded in 1935 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God in 1945. It has been an active Christian influence in Florence and the Siuslaw Valley all 84 years of her history. Its mission is to be a point of connection between Christ and the world. To engage the community with a relevant message of hope, grace and love. To be a sending point of teaching, training and launching people into life experience ministry in the workplace, school and community. Cross Road has a variety of ministries that reach the youngest to the oldest in the community. It also has an excellent team of workers to teach a variety of ages the life changing message of Christ. The church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, the largest
Protestant Pentecostal Movement in the world. Its members are actively involved in missions that reach and teach people both at home and around the world.
You can expect friendly and authentic people, engaging and relevant music and worship, compelling preaching from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. You can expect to find a place where cre-
ativity and fellowship come together to worship God in new and exciting ways. You can expect to be encouraged, challenged, excited and, most importantly, welcomed. We strive to live out the Biblical command to love God, each other and our neighbors, following Jesus Christ not only through our words, but also through the lives we lead. NEW LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH For people looking for a church home that is friendly, spiritual, and dedicated to the principles and teachings of Christ, New Life Lutheran is an excellent choice. The congregation is served by Pastor Lori Blake formerly of Immanuel Church in Minnesota. While maintaining strong spiritual teaching and Christian support to the congregation, New Life Lutheran is dedicated to serving the community through outreach. The church was in the grass roots movement to establish “Food Share” to feed the hungry of Florence. Food Share is now located on church property and is thriving. “Habitat for Humanity “ is another local service that the church helped pioneer. Habitat has built 26 houses and is working on the 27th. This helps many young families to afford a home and even help build it! New Life Lutheran established the first Christian preschool in Florence in the 70’s. It was
called “Alice Brauer Christian School.” The church is now partnering with two very experienced and qualified people for a Kindergarten ready Preschool of the same name. These are the services that the church offers: Adult Forum class at 9:00 a.m. Sun., “ Come As You Are” service on Wed. at 6:00 with the first Wed. being “Movie Night”, Games & Grub on the 1st Sat., and Bible Study at 1:00 and 6:00 On Thurs. Summer Splash is offered once a month in the summertime for children. The Community is invited to attend these services and events as well as our regular service at 10:30 on Sun., and to share the Fellowship hour in the Fellowship hall immediately afterwards Grace and peace to all. You can access the Church newsletter. “The Vine” on line at www.lutheranchurchflorence.com.

Caring and Sharing
Chartered in 1982, Florence United Methodist Church has been described as having an “outsize” impact in its community. The people who have worshipped in the little building with the steeple on Second and Kingwood over more than four decades have left a mark on Florence. At any given time, virtually all its members are in leadership positions or are volunteers with scores of community organizations – from Habitat for Humanity to the Siuslaw Public Library. And this is not to mention its own sponsored ministry, Free Lunch, a fixture two days a week in its Social Hall for more than 22 years, and its Prayer Shawl Ministry, which has been hand-crafting knitted and crocheted items for those in need of comfort for more than a dozen years. Spiritual comfort and robust worship can be experienced at Florence United Methodist Church, which has two Sunday services, adult and children’s Sunday School, a choir, and active small-group ministries. Its participation in the Florence Ecumenical Lenten Renewal movement since its inception 23 years ago has furthered its partnerships in joint worship and outreach ministries with other denominations. It has hosted inter-faith community prayer vigils on its property. In 2011, Florence United Methodist members voted overwhelmingly to join the Reconciling Ministries Network, an international movement within the Methodist Church, to affirm, support and welcome all under the LGBTQIA umbrella. It is truly a church of open minds, open hearts, open doors.
