ine, art, and jazz aficionados, take note — FlorenceFest is back for its third consecutive year and its offerings keep getting better. FlorenceFest ’19 returns to the Florence Events Center from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, and from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, with a dozen select Oregon boutique wineries, nine top-level jazz acts and an invitational art show and sale. Advance tickets are $20 for Friday and $25 for Saturday. Tickets are available exclusively at the Florence Events Center, located at 715 Quince St., or at EventCenter.org. Tickets are limited in number and, if
available at the door, will be an additional $3 each. Admission is restricted to adults 21. “Each day’s admission price gets you six free wine tastings and a souvenir wine glass,” said event producer Jon Thompson. “It’s also a perfect opportunity to purchase wine by the glass, bottle or case from 12 carefully selected Oregon boutique wineries. Thompson continued, “Admission is less than you’d pay at most places to see the jazz headliners alone, but you get an even bigger value when you add in the other acts, the wine tasting and the remarkable quality of the nearly 60 art selections.”

Boutique Wineries Represent Oregon’s Best Regions “We’ll have a great diversity of reds, whites, blends, favorite vintages and table wines for sampling from all the best regions in Oregon,” Thompson said. “Plus, ticket holders receive six tastings and a commemorative wine glass with each day’s admission.”
Music From Across The Jazz Spectrum Throughout the festival, people can expect the best from local and regional jazz artists, as well as Friday’s headliner Farnell Newton & The Othership Connection and Saturday’s Juried Art Show and Sale Soul Vaccination. “Our biggest change for this Brings Excellent Diversity year is extending Saturday’s “The quality of art has been hours and getting out the significantly elevated for this
year,” art coordinator Harlen Springer of the Florence Area Arts Alliance said. “Ticket holders are going to be impressed and delighted.” There are 59 finalists curated by Karin Clarke, owner and director of Karin Clarke Gallery in downtown Eugene. All artwork will be for sale. “Last year’s FlorenceFest was a great success,” Thompson said. “We hosted hundreds of wine, art and jazz aficionados from along the West Coast. The quality of this year’s wine, art, food and music is shaping up to be even better.” For more info, visit Florence FestOregon.com or contact the Florence Events Center at 541997-1994 or EventCenter.org.

O
nce again, FlorenceFest is very pleased with the jazz acts assembled for this year’s festival. Our goal is to promote musical diversity that will appeal to a broad audience. This year, we are excited to expand the lineup with two groups that will certainly accomplish this. Our closing acts for both Friday and Saturday will feature the styles of funk and soul. Both musical styles derived from jazz during the 1950s and ’60s and will certainly promote a lively atmosphere at FlorenceFest. Be sure to check out all of the groups performing — and especially our Friday closer, Farnell Newton and the Othership Connection, and our Saturday closer, Soul Vaccination. — Ron Green Jazz musician, CEO of Oregon Pacific Bank & FlorenceFest’s entertainment director

FlorenceFest ’19 Juried Art Show
T
he Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) wants to invite everyone to join them at the third annual FlorenceFest. In addition to sampling fine wine and listening to talented jazz musicians, you have the opportunity to enjoy unique artwork selected for this event. Juror Karin Clarke has selected 59 pieces out of the artwork submitted. Showcased pieces include stunning 2D art from a variety of media (oil, watercolors, photography, etc.) as well as exquisite 3D selections of pottery from artists in five different states. While local Florence artists are very well represented, there is work from artists in Portland and Eugene, as well as the North and South Coast. Entries were also selected from Montana, Texas, Washington and Hawaii. Clarke has been the owner and director of Karin Clarke Gallery in downtown Eugene for the past 16
years and has established herself as a respected figure in the Oregon art scene. She opened the gallery with the goal of creating museum quality shows to recognize regional artists, including the work of her parents, artists Margaret Coe and the late Mark Clarke. In addition, Clarke regularly curates from the estates of some of Oregon’s most soughtafter artists. She has a strong background in studio arts, art history, exhibit design and art appraisal and has exhibited her own artwork. There will be a total $2,500 in prize money and awards given for participants in FlorenceFest ’19. There will also be a “People’s Choice” selection, which will be awarded based on votes of those in attendance.
