Korea Familiarization Tour: SIWA Journey to Gwangju
I had a great and full day traveling to Gwangju by participating in the Familiarization Tour coordinated by Michelle Morrison. It was such a good and well-organized outing made possible through the support of Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province. We traveled to Namhansanseong, where we were able to smell country soil and grass. During the tour we reminisced of the old days, during our childhood, by touching the Impatiens Textori ), commonly known as snap dragons, and watching them snap. It was fun. I realized my ancestors’ wisdom from the structure of Korea’s traditional Ondol room shape ‘ ’. I was able to understand its logic when I was in one of the rooms located in Namhansanseong. We stopped by a place where they had made and supplied porcelains to the Joseon Royal Palaces. From the graceful posture of a big Moon Shaped Jar( ), my heart felt We also visited a house called “Sharing House” where old Comfort Women were residing. I felt frustrated remembering the sad and real history of them since I am a woman. In addition, we were treated to a very nice and delicious Korean
traditional lunch followed by merry and happy farmer’s music at the end of the day course. It was such a nice and fun day! I would like to thank Michelle and the public servants of Gwangju City again.
Kyunghee Park is a Korean who had lived
several years in UAE. She has learned and taught about KoreanTea for more than 10 years. I enjoy travelling, cooking, social gathering, and sharing life experience with people.
