Graduating from high school is one of the biggest accomplishments you will achieve.
oing to school seems like the hardest thing you will do growing up. Waking up early, taking notes, taking tests and quizzes are a part of going to school that nobody really likes. School can actually be very fun, it is what you make it; the choice is yours. You get an education to build your future, with your friends. Twelve years of schooling seems like a lot, but once you receive that diploma it makes it all worth it. Graduating is the start of your future. Graduating from high school is one of the
8

biggest accomplishments you will achieve. Statistics show that, from 2001 to 2013 the high school dropout number decreased from 1.5 million to 800,000 students. This is a lot, and as the years pass this number can continue to decrease. From a personal experience, going to school can be very stressful, but graduating made all the stress, breakdowns and hard work worth it! If you can believe it, you can achieve it, and if you can dream it you can become it.

ways to transform
Manson Jars Paloma Moreno / arqpalomamv@hotmail.com
Recycle mason jars into a gorgeous decoration for your party or your bedroom. You can choose a theme like autumn, beach, vintage, or whatever you like. Then based on this topic just let flow your imagination by painting the jar and/or filling it with sea stars, flowers, bouquets, etc. You can use it as a sewing kit. Keep inside buttons, pins, and threads. For the top use a small sponge for the needles. Use this sewing kit for a personal use or even as a thank you present.
2
Reuse mason jars to fill them with ice cream, cake or lemon pie with jelly, peanuts, strawberries or chocolate bites on top. These are delicious and are perfect to share with your friends! Don’t forget to refrigerate them before. Also, you can put these jars at a dessert bar in a party or for better presentation.

14
QM WINTer 2015
Glow in the dark with neon lamps! You can easily get neon paint at any craft supply store. It’s really easy to do them, all you need is to fill the jar with a little bit of paint, close and shake it to do the splash effect. Then you can hang them with nylon threads from the ceiling or trees. Great for a cool and modern decoration for your bedroom or a theme party!
4
Do home made candles or a candle holder. Create a warm ambience at a party, decoration for your home or even use them as a gift. You can buy the candle kit at different handcrafts stores that comes with an easy instruction manual. Size and colors are up to your imagination!
5
These are just some ideas of how you can give mason jars a second use. For more creative and fun ideas on how to recycle, reuse and reduce keep reading QM Nevada and don’t forget to Think Green!

Junk Food and its Consequences Dianela Torres / dianelatm@gmail.com
H
ave you ever heard of junk food? It’s yummy huh? Junk food is so delicious and easy to get that nowadays more people around the world consume it more and more, especially teenagers wether: to spend time with their friends, watch TV, or just on a whim at times of idleness.
But what is junk food? They are foods that actually contain small amounts of nutrients that our bodies need, but otherwise contain high levels of fat, sugar, preservatives, salts, etc. Which do not benefit our health. Some junk foods are candy, chips, sodas, and all those foods sold in fast food establishments. Unfortunately, even though these foods are delicious and even cheaper to get than a lot of nutritious food, they are also evil for our health in both the short and long term. I’ll explain: Constantly eating junk food will cause you to get some health problems, from the “simple” ones as cavities or cellulitis to more serious problems such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. Did you know that the last-mentioned diseases, years ago were only seen in adults? Now we see more and more young people suffer from such diseases that even lead to early death. It is believed that if the consumption of junk food in children continues to increase daily, it is very likely that parents would now see their children die rather than have the children see their parents die. Sad, isn’t it? Eating healthy is not so difficult if you propose it, nor is it as bad as many believe. If you love junk food, you may begin to decrease the amount you eat. And there are a variety of recipes for delicious and nutritious food for your health. For now when you’re craving, think before acting. Before rushing to the store to buy junk food, I suggest you go to your kitchen and cut some vegetables like cucumber or jicama, you can put lemon on them, you’ll see it’s delicious and gets you full faster, in addition to having many more nutrients than candy or chips. Start with small changes and save your future. If you eat right now, you will live well tomorrow.

Celebrate and help! Celebrating your quinceañera is one of the most important days in any girl’s life – it signifies to the world that you are a mature young woman. But what if you could use your special day to not only celebrate becoming a young woman, but also to help people who need it most? Part of becoming a well-rounded young lady includes caring for those in your community. Hosting your quince at Three Square Food Bank lets you enjoy a fun-filled fiesta in a beautiful venue, all while supporting a local charity and giving back to those in need. Three Square offers custom menus and package option for up to 800 guests, with rates as low as $50 per person.

e know first hand that planning a quinceañera isn’t easy. There is so much to figure out like who’s gonna do your makeup? Where are you getting your dress? Is it in you budget? What about the banquet hall? Where are you getting the food from? And the list goes on and you are not done there. You need to figure out the orde you need to start planning things, Like, you can’t order your dress one month before your quince. And you can’t start practicing for the vals 10 months before. It’s too early to even think about that.

to Take Control of Your Time. Make a to-do list every day Put the most important tasks at the top, even if they’re things you’re dreading, and tackle them first. Include things you want to do on your list too, so you have items you’re looking forward to. Try motivating yourself with a reward if you get to everything on your list. Keep your work with you That way, if you find yourself with extra time—while on the train or bus or waiting for an appointment—you can get something done. Don’t be afraid to say no It’s OKAY to say no if your friend asks you to go to a movie one night but you have a test the next morning. Instead, find a time that works for both of you and go see the movie then. Find your productive time Are you a morning person or a night person? You’ll be more efficient if you work when you’re at your best. Create a dedicated study time Set up a time devoted only to studying or homework. Shut off your phone and

respond to calls or texts when your work is finished. Don’t check email or surf the Web (except when you need to for the work you’re doing) during this time either. Budget your time Figure out how much time you usually spend on your activities and then create a weekly schedule to follow. Determine how much free time you have before you add any commitments. And don’t forget to schedule time to relax. Don’t get sidetracked If you find yourself wasting time on unimportant things, stop, check your to-do list and get back to what’s at the top. Maybe you’re procrastinating because you’re not sure how to move forward on a school project. If that’s the problem, check with your teacher to clear things up so you can get moving. Get a good night’s sleep Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. If it’s time to sleep, list the things you still need to get done on the next day’s to-do list and go to bed.
debe
Lo que un padre

hacer
Haga preguntas.
Escuche activamente.
¿Cómo pasaste el día? ¿Cómo te sientes? ¿Aprendiste algo interesante hoy? ¿Has conocido a alguna persona?
No
Lo que un padre Ser demasiado crítico.
debe hacer

My Quince Ceremony
A
very special tradition for a quinceañera is to thank Heavenly Father for turning 15 by doing a religious ceremony and share it with family and close friends. We know planning the party takes a lot of your time, but planning your misa (mass) should be important too to make this moment really special.
1. 2.
Where to start. First, you need to decide in which church you want your misa. Some have Spanish ceremonies other ones are English only. Also look at the location, remember that day goes fast, so you need to be practical and on schedule.
pay a fee.
Save the date. You need to go to the church offices and save the date and time you want your ceremony. Don’t forget to ask if you need special documents and to
3. 4. that day.
Give a souvenir or party favor to your guests. Consider a missal as an option for a party favor. You’ll need to include lectures and prayers due in your misa
Decoration. You can use flowers to decorate church. Try to use seasonal flowers to help your parents’ budget. Also take in consideration your quince theme; flowers can be the same color as your dress or decoration from your reception.
We hope these tips are helpful. Enjoy your special day and this beautiful stage in life! 40

Samantha Acuña After my
QM Miss Cover Girl
Experience
Hello everyone! My name is Samantha Acuña Campa, Miss Covergirl 2013. I’m 18 years of age and I’m currently attending Paul Micthell School Las Vegas. I was 15 years old when I participated in QM Miss Covergirl, and winning that title was such a fun experience and full of great opportunities. Being the 2013 queen, I was able to compete with 13 other QM Miss Covergirls queens from around the U.S for the National Image of Expo Quinceañera and I was blessed to win that title and represent Quinceañera Magazine Nevada throughout the nation. After that, I won another magazine cover in Indianapolis, IN “Miss Quince Magazine” in 2013. Once my QM Miss Covergirl reign was over, I participated in Nuestra Belleza Nevada and I won the Teen category title; it has been an amazing journey full of new opportunities.
I participated in QM Miss Covergirl, and winning that title was such a fun experience and full of great opportunities. I’ve had the pleasure of doing many things, a few of them being able to be a part of Fiesta Las Vegas Latino Parade and Festival, being on T.V commercials, judging in pageants, and being personally invited by pageant coach/ fashion designer Joey Gallon to model in a prestigious fashion show. As NBNV Queen I had the opportunity to travel to Houston, TX to participate in Miss T.E.E.N World with my international title Miss T.E.E.N Mexico 2014, where I came in top 8 as a finalist. In the future, I want to first graduate from my school with my Esthetician license and open my own beauty salon and also keep on training to get to my biggest dream of becoming Nuestra Belleza Latina. Nothing is impossible ladies, give it your 100% dedication and love towards it and you can accomplish anything! XOXO Samantha 46

As well as our love life, during this early stage of our life many young girls may start looking for that one person to bring us a bit of extra love and happiness, but it can be very difficult to balance everything. A boyfriend is a big commitment that requires very much time and effort so the relationship can be a healthy one. As a young woman one should set

If a boy doesn’t respect that, then there is no need to be with someone that doesn’t respect you or that values the woman you are. Find someone that loves you for the person you are inside and respects you in every manner, someone who supports you in your goals and dreams. Although, yes a boyfriend can bring us butterflies to our stomachs and never ending smiles, you need to be in a relationship for all the right reasons and not to just accomplish those relationship goals as seen in social media. When one is in a relationship they are looking for their companion for life. So don’t get stress over not having a boyfriend because when the right time comes he will appear along the way. At age 15 one has not fully lived and hasn’t experienced the beautiful things life has to offer, so don’t worry and just live. It’s all about you! Follow your dreams, smile, be happy, overcome fears and when the time is right you will meet the right guy to do all those things with you. 52

My quinceañera was an experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. I loved every moment of it and still wish I can go back and relive it. I’m so thankful to my parents for making this all happen. It was an amazing night spent with my loving family and great friends. All the planning and all the stress for one day that went by so fast , but it was completely worth it. I couldn’t have asked for a more incredible memory.

Muchas gracias!
xoxo Aimee
