Stop by KJ Cafe today Grab a muffin or coffee on your way to class BY MADISON WILBER AND KEVIN LEE TIMES STAFF

Looking to grab a cup of coffee or even a snack? KJ Cafe is available on campus in the theater building lobby. Since the cafe is located in the middle of the campus near the fine arts, business and multidisciplinary buildings, it’s easily accessible to those students during the 10 minute period between classes. “It’s literally like the only thing on campus, and the other ones are too far. It’s really convenient,” said Janet Lopez, 22, cosmetology major. The cafe serves teas, cold drinks, grab-and-go sandwiches, gourmet coffee and salads as well as a variety of snacks. “The hot chocolate is pretty good,” said Rosalie Martin, 18, cosmetology major. Martin said she would recommend it to new students. “For someone who needs a quick bite and is not familiar with the area, and doesn’t know know that we have the Wendy’s, I would say go there,” said Isisah Arcilla, 22, animation screenwriting major. COVID-19 restrictions still apply while shopping.

“What would you tell students coming into the spring 2022 semester?”

Anderson Jones Age: 20 Major: Communications

Maria Miller Age: 16 Program: Middle School

“It’s a cool experience here (SJCC) and everything is chill. Teachers are good, counselors are good. Everybody wants you to succeed.”

“Don’t be nervous at all. SJCC has a great student and teacher community, and it’s very accepting and diverse. The classes are nice, and it’s been a good experience here.”

Mark Cataolos Age: 25 Major:Industrial Teaching

Taylor Kindel Age: 17 Program: Middle College

“Talk to Professors if you need help. They are here to help you.Don’t be afraid to go to office hours.”

“It’s a fun campus and I have good professors so far, and they’re very forgiving. It’s really nice being here and it’s a pretty campus.”

Dear editor, I am writing this letter to thank you for publishing your piece celebrating 100 years of San Jose City College that offered some history on this institution. I was pleased to learn that SJCC has always catered to students, especially students of color, indigenous students, women and nontraditional students like myself. It was also great to learn about the many famous and successful people who attended this school and obviously still have great affection for it. There is a reason people love this school so much. I came to San Jose City College as a 30-yearold woman in a dead-end career, broke and looking for a way to improve my life. I was always terrified of school before I came here, but SJCC completely changed my life in more ways than just academically. Coming here gave me the confidence in myself that I was just as worthy of an education as anyone else and, most importantly, that I could achieve my dreams. The faculty and friendly attitude of both students and staff contribute to this environment of student success. I am proud to be a student here and so

grateful for the opportunities and guidance I have received. So thank you for writing this article and for honoring SJCC’s 100 years of excellence. I wish the school 100 years more. Best regards, Rebecca Goodeyon, SJCC student Hello Rebecca, Thank you for sending in your letter to the editor. We are glad to hear you liked our story. The Times feels it is important to talk about the history behind the school and all of the different groups of people that lent a helping hand to it; per your examples: students of color, indigenous students, women, nontraditional students, some famous and more. We are glad to hear you felt as though the truth we wrote about honored the school and you continue to read upcoming stories about campus. The Times wishes you well on your academic plan, and we hope to hear from you again. Sincerely, The Times Editorial Board

You should write a Letter to the Editor today! You could write something you need advice on or a secret you have never told anybody! It could be anything! All The Times asks is that the letter is 200 words or less. Send it to our email citycollegetimes@jaguars.sjcc.edu today!
