St. Johns and Me By: Angie Arellano St. Johns and me… a perfect fit! My friends here at St. Johns are wonderful because they help me when I get hurt. My friends also try to cheer me up when I am sad. I like my teachers. They are awesome because they let us have a lot of fun! The second reason I like my teachers is because they always smile at me. I like the activities because we have Field Day and Jump Rope for Heart. Another reason that I like the activities is because everybody in my class is there and it’s fun. I like my classes because I learn cursive. I also like my classes because I learn Math. St. Johns is like a family to me because everyone looks out for each other. On The Ranch By: Claire Little Want to hear the time I saw some weird animals and I wasn’t at the zoo? One day, about five days ago I was going to Charlotte NC with my cousins Reece and Caroline. It was during spring break. Caroline told me we were going to a ranch. I was so excited! We ate breakfast and went to my grandmother’s house. We still had time so we grabbed some snacks. I went outside to play. Then, I went inside, got my jacket and we were off! When we got to the ranch we saw really cool animals like emus, horses, and even zebras. WE had some snacks. Next, we got the wagon. Horses pulled us. “Look, giraffes!” It was so awesome! We got to feed the giraffes too. All at once, BOOM! The wagon stopped a little too hard. Last, we got off the wagon. My cousins thought it was awesome. It was amazing! It was a time I’ll always remember forever! P.S. –Ranches are fun! You should try going to one.

Joy By: Courtney Sage I am always joyful as a song when I think of the three things I care about the most: My dog Sandy, My sister, and Muffin the hamster. I have an adorable puppy named Sandy. I give her a yummy dinner before I do my homework. I give her lots of toys to play with. I cuddle with her before I put her to bed for a sweet nap. My sister Kendall is as cool as cool-aid. Kendall is my BFFL. To show her she is my BFFL I give her three stuffed dogs and her bright orange hunting hat when she is hurt. I pour her milk for dinner. I also help her with her makeup work. Muffin is as cute as a fluff ball. To show she is cute I take care of her. When I see her at snack I make sure she is safe and well fed. I put her in her strawberry and let her have nice dreams. It feels amazing to have a trouble making puppy, a cool sister, she is not mine but to see, and an adorable hamster. I will take care of them forever.

Burgerian By: Crystian DeMonbreun This is a Burgerian. A Burgerian burrows badly into big holes. A Burgerian eats burgers, bubbles, bats, and bugs. Caring By: Elizabeth Stoeber

I feel as happy as a clown when I think about these three things: my family, my friends, and my dog, Lucky. My family is awesome. They’re as caring as a mother, as funny as a clown and cool as a cucumber. Here are some things that I do to help them: I work hard to help my mom with her job, I spend time with them on Friday nights, I carry things to our car for them, and I help my mom and grandma (nee nee) cook delicious food. My friends are also very important to me. I love having great friends because I can tell them anything. One of my friends named Jonathan is as quiet as a moth when I tell him a secret. Another reason is that if I fall down they pick you right back up. When I think of my friends, I feel so elated that I could jump up and touch the sky! When I think of my dog Lucky, I feel overjoyed, that I feel like a mama bear with tons of honey! I cherish him so much that I wouldn’t give him up for $1,000,000! Some things I adore about him is that he’s sweet as sugar, as joyful as a song, and as fast as a rocket. He’s so great! When I think of these things it makes me feel like I’m in my own little world! It’s awesome to have a loving family, caring friends, and a playful puppy!

The Best Birthday Ever By: Ellie Rosenau

On my birthday I swam with the dolphins! I was with my family on vacation in Orlando. I was six years old. We swam with the dolphins in Discovery Cove. There was a lazy river and a stingray exhibit. It was very tropical. Now, it’s time to meet the dolphins! We got in the water. It was freezing cold. There was an instructor in the water with us. She guided us with the dolphins. I put one fin on my dolphin. I held tight and off we went. I started smiling very big. They were going very fast! We said bye to the dolphins. We had a superb time. I can’t wait to go again. I’m going to miss them very much. You feel a connection with the dolphins when they smile at you. That was the best birthday ever!!!

Haiku By: Noelle Sanford Caterpillars eat They munch on yummy green leaves Soon they’ll make cocoons

England By: Jazmin Mateo If I could live in a different country it would be England. It would be England because I went to England over the summer and it was awesome. You can see Big Ben. You know that Big Ben is the clock on the tower not the building on the outside. You can also go on the London Eye. The London Eye is very high, at least when I went on it, it was. You can go to the tower of London. When you go, they give you a tour. It is very big on the inside and outside. I had the most fun in this shop named Hamley’s. It is the biggest toyshop you will ever see or hear about because it is FIVE stories high. It has so many toys in it. When I went in it, it felt like I was dreaming. The next place is Buckingham Palace. One awesome thing about it is that the queen, king, princess, and the prince live there. You can pay billions of dollars to go meet them and eat dinner with them. People have tried to sneak in there but it is impossible because there are so many security guards. Then you can go to all of the museums that they have there. There is a hands-on science museum. You can also see concerts on this huge hill. I saw The Wanted on the huge hill. The bad thing is that instead of a lot of sunshine, there is a lot of rain and snow in the winter. Those are all of the places I went to, and now you know why I want to move there!

Reminderians By: Danielle Fetner This is a Reminderian. Reminderians live in Russia’s running race city. Reminderians eat rain, raspberries, and rocky rode Rita ice cream. Reminderians rightly remind rookies of their lack of recalling. Reminderians are really rare reminder rocks. My Reminderian reminded me of my rookie rocking chair incident.

Very Thankful By: Sergio Arellano I am thankful that I can go to St. Johns because all of my teachers help me with problems that I have a hard time with. I am also thankful because all of my friends are the nicest people on earth. I am very thankful that we can afford to go to this school. My mom also works at S.J.C.D.S and I am thankful for that too. I love this school! I am thankful for holidays because that is the time my family can get together. On Thanksgiving, we go down to Miami to visit my cousins. We sometimes get together some of my old friends from the Bahamas and go skiing. This is a big shock for them because they never see snow down there. I am also thankful for the U.S.A. Special Forces because they protect our country all the time. My uncle is a Green Beret and I am very proud for him. I rarely see him because he lives in North Carolina. He works at Fort Brad. Last but not least I am thankful for the summer because that’s the only time my family has time to go on trips other than winter. I also enjoy the summer because that’s the time it is hot so we can go out on our boat to go tubing, knee boarding, and swimming. My family enjoys it too because we can meet up with old friends. My most favorite time in the summer is when we go camping. Also, don’t forget, no homework!

most AMAZING place By: Goldie Robinson Every October I go to Highlands, North Carolina. It’s my favorite place in the whole world! When we are there we go on superb nature trails and we hike major mountains. Sometimes the trail is mush, wet, and sometimes it is dry and hard. The smell is amazing. It is so hard to describe but, if I had to describe it, it would be like this. Imagine every good smelling thing in the world combined. Those together and something natury. You hear amazing things of all different species like birds, reptiles, amphibians, and all different scary, funny, and terrific things. You especially hear the beautiful wind. The sight is so peaceful just looking at nature. When you breath in you taste natural and organic things. As you can tell I love the Highlands N.C. I hope that you get a chance to go there. Highlands is the most AMAZING place in the world!

A Season for Senses By: Kinley Hall

I like to see a really beautiful Christmas, hear beautiful Christmas carols, smell awesome coconut pound cake, taste just baked cookies, and touch beautiful presents. A beautiful Christmas tree is a delight to see. When we decorate the tree, it looks as pretty as ME!

The Accident By: John Linge

The worst accident of my life is one I will never forget. BAM! That was the sound of someone’s head running into my shoulder. It was horrible. It all started around 7:50 at night. I was at the Clay County soccer field. We were doing 3u3 training when a bunch of people came out and played each other. My friends and I were on a team. I had the ball and this guy just glances at me. Then all of a sudden, he charges me. He was so fast! When he was charging at me, he ran straight into my shoulder. The pain was terrible. I fell to the ground crying hard. Good thing my dad was there but he didn’t see it. I walked over to him. He looked at it and knew something was wrong with it. I mean, when I made my arm go up it was like a pointy mountain. Like Mount Everest! When I stood straight my shoulder leaned to the right. After that we left.

Squeaky: The H-force weapon specialist By: James Woolard

Squeaky is a nocturnal Russian dwarf hamster. He lives in room L19 in a plastic and metal cage. He is an excellent climber and bites. You have to pick him up in a cup. On February 8 th Joseph Shimko noticed that Squeaky was missing. Ten minutes later he was found at the bottom of the stairwell. Somehow he got down a 4 feet counter and through two doors. There are many theories about how he escaped. My theory is that he is a super ninja! He threw his numchuck at the door and it blew open! As quick as lightning he blasted out the cage, and used a grappling hook to get across the room, and scurried down the staircase to train with his sensei. We may never know ho he escaped. He knows we’re on to him and may never tell us.

Why I Celebrate St. Johns By: Yosh Aprameya St. Johns is special to me in many was. For instance, we have a pool, we order from restaurants instead of a cafeteria, there are bake sales, cookouts, and ice cream on Fridays. But we still learn a lot like multiplication, division, cursive and so much more. We learn lots in every subject. Here are a list of subjects students enjoy: Art, drama, dance, creative writing, music, and P.E. In summer we have lots of summer camps to pick from! That’s why I celebrate St. Johns.

Eek! There’s a Mouse in the Classroom By: Phoenix Cumpstone

Call Mrs. Rosenau to get that mouse, eek! Mrs. Rosenau is playing a banjo. Call Mrs. Jackson to get that mouse, eek! Mrs. Jackson is playing a flute. Call Mrs. Anderson to get that mouse, eek! Mrs. Anderson is playing a drum. Call Mrs. Cauthen to get the mouse, eek! Mrs. Cauthen is playing a harmonica. Call Mr. Ellison to get the mouse, eek! Mr. Ellison is playing a guitar. I guess I will get rid of it myself.

Revenge of the Foods By: Max Grubor One day a giant potato landed on planet earth. His group (plum, tomato, cucumber, pickle, and carrot) landed too. They were from the planet… Food. They were destroying stores because they shrunk all his friends and sold them to people. They started collecting the food and then eating them. “Wow! They are really eating their own kind, that’s harsh.” The giant foods kept getting taller and taller. When every food in the world was eaten by the giant foods, the armed forces (Military, Army, Navy, Navy Seals, Air Force, and the Marines) started fighting. ONE month later… It all came down to one Army man and the plum because all the people surrendered except for the two of them. All of a sudden the plum jumped and was about to crush the army man but he pulled out a laser to direct missiles. He pointed it at the plum and then the missile hit the plum. The heart (pit) of the plum was about to fall on him. He then turned into superman and caught the pit. He threw the pit back into space and it hit another planet. The planet was crushed and everybody had a good ending except for the food.

The Mystery of the Missing hamster By: Teagen Davis Squeaky is a three-month- old, Russian dwarf, fluffy, and biting hamster. He lives in room L19, 4-A, at St. Johns Country Day School. One day he got out of his cage. Tuesday, Feb. 7 was the last time Squeaky was seen in his cage. Somehow he got off a 4 ft. high counter, and got out of two school doors. He was found Feb. 8 at 7:50 by a 5th grader at the bottom of the stairwell. Joseph noticed squeaky was missing at 7:40 A.M. Nobody could know how this happened, but this is my theory. Squeaky climbed up the rails and ejected the top by karate-chopping it. Then he jumped from table to table and snuck under the door until he saw the janitor and hopped on the cart. When he got down he jumped off and traveled around the school. When he came back to the stairwell he was sleepy and drowsy as can be, he curled up and went to sleep. In the morning before anybody came in he tried to get up the stairs but couldn’t, then he curled right back up. Will Squeaky get out again? Squeaky totally gave us a huge thriller. Hopefully we will find out how he did make it and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Nobody will know Squeaky’s secret because it is a big secret. Squeaky is keeping that secret as safe as bee keeping its honey safe from tons of things.

Marley’s First Christmas By: Evelyn Hanson Once there was a dog, named Marley. It was her first Christmas! She was going to set up her own Christmas tree. She decorated it with tinsel, ornaments, and shiny gold beads. When she was done she put a pretty star on top. Then she baked cookies the rest of the day. When it was her bedtime she found magic pajamas in her dog bed. That reminded her to put out cookies for Santa so she put three cookies out for Santa. Then she put her magic pajamas and went to bed. When it was morning she RAN TO THE TREE and there were tons of PRESENTS UNDER THE TREE! She opened them all. She got all the things she wanted. She got doggy bones and lots and lots of chew toys.

Thankfulness Coming Straight from the Heart By: Trinity Seiler There are so many items and things I’m thankful for in this beautiful world. I could pour out all of m y thoughts out in this story, but to be honest, I’m so glad to have such wonderful things that it might take a month! Instead, I shall tell you the four things I’m most thankful for coming straight from my heart. These four things I desire to talk about the m ost are m y shelter, my family, the planet, and a special companion of mine. Please feel touched even if it is just a miniscule amount. I greatly appreciate m y home. Even when it is messy and I have to do chores, it is reassuring to know there is a place for me in this huge world called Earth. There truly is no place like home! I still ponder what will happen in the distant future when I have to m ove out and find a place of my own. It makes me remember how fortunate I am to be a kid. H owever, even if I had the most gorgeous home, I wouldn’t trade it for my family any day. I love my family from the bottom of my heart, especially, my dad and my mom more than anyone. I love them, but I highly miss and cherish my grandpa. Grandpa lived with me for a really long time. I still wish I could see my fam ily m ore often. H owever, if it weren’t for the enormous, blue, and beautiful planet we have today, none of m y family or friends would be here, nor would the house I live in be. I try my best to recycle all I can, and I dream that some day we will find out ways to reuse and recycle even more! Even if there aren’t recycling bins nearby, every time I see trash or litter on the playground or on a park, I at least throw it away into a trashcan so the environment of those places stay sanitary. Also, if it weren’t for Earth, there would be no countries or land we could live on (that we know of). I am proud to be an American and so very thankful that there is a planet known as Earth that can support life. Speaking of som ething m ore like fam ily, I think of my friends like brothers and sisters! H owever, there’s one person that’s m y BFF! Zhariya, if you’re reading this, you are like the awesome sister I never had. Even when you’re devilish or crazy, I have a bucket-load of fun with you! I am thankful for my home, fam ily, planet, friends, and so much more! It would take longer than venturing to the moon and back to express how I feel.
