by Jennifer Thompson It is SPRING. At long last, we are seeing and feeling a change in the weather. As I shared with the elementary students in chapel last week, I love to see God at work in his creation when I drive to school each morning and see the mountains and buds and sunshine! It reminds me that God gives us so much and wants to fill our lives with His presence. Similarly, God works on our hearts and he brings new joy and new mercies to us each and every day. A sense of spiritual renewal is ours as we acknowledge God’s control and perfect timing in our lives. We can live refreshed, renewed and transformed lives as we seek God together in community at SJCS. That is one of the things I love most about being in community with each of you. Let’s commit to being an encouragement to each other in this busy time of the school year.

Friday, May 4 - Fine Arts Festival - Campus Closed Please plan ahead! SJCS is hosting the Northern California CSI Fine Arts Festival on Friday, May 4, 2018. The campus is closed for all preschool and elementary students. Only FAF student participants should be on campus. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Singh in the school office.

Arriving on Campus Before 8am? Students who are on campus BEFORE 8:00am MUST check into Extended Care. Thank you for helping us keep the campus and our students safe.

16th Annual Spring Auction On Saturday Night, April 14, about 160 supporters of San Jose Christian School gathered together at the Woman’s Club of San Jose to enjoy fellowship and to raise money for our school. The specific causes for this year’s event included upgrading a portion of our teacher laptops, furniture updates, improvements to the library/media lounge, upgrades to the campus including the security systems, and additional technology improvements. In planning the event, our different needs totaled just over $60,000. With the auction proceeds still being totaled today, we have brought in over $80,000. We praise God for His provision for our school, and we thank you for your generosity! If you see Betsy Phillips, Janelle Hendricks or other members of the auction planning team this week, please congratulate them for a job well done.

Preschool Summer Semester is around the corner! The Preschool theme will be around the world! We will look at the different continents and many cultures, as well as learn about the oceans!

Mrs. Baham along with the organists of Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos have gathered a few of their advanced students and will be performing a varied program of works for piano and other instruments. Members of the SJCS student body have been selected and we invite you to come hear some wonderful music and support Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. Sunday, April 29 | 3 - 4 PM.

Limited Care will be available for students who are enrolled in the summer semester. These dates are: June 8th, June 11th, and June 12th. An email regarding signing up for these dates has been sent out.

C.P.T.A. Our final CPTA meeting of the year was packed with reminders for upcoming events, exciting news and fond farewells. Our current CPTA president, Jill Zapp, announced that she will be stepping down as the CPTA president to pursue other opportunities within SJCS. With people rolling off the committee and new roles opening please look within yourself to see if your feel your calling to serve. For all those who are hesitant, remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called! Although this is the final CPTA meeting of the year, the year is not over just yet. We still have many fun and exciting upcoming events such as the Fine Arts Festival, hosted by SJCS, the SJCS association meeting, our last Staff Appreciation Luncheon, Concert on the Green, MS Sports Awards, Field Day, Jazz show just to name a few. Please check the school website and Tiger Tracks for more information regarding these events. With the year coming to an end, room parents are reminded to celebrate any summer birthdays for teachers and adopted staff members. Lastly, take a minute to join the SJCS Association. We will have our association meeting on May 14th in the evening and all that attend will have a chance to meet our new superintendent, vote on board of trustee members and other topics of importance to our school. The cost to join is only $10.

Tiger Talk This week’s BIG IDEA - How do you incorporate reading the Bible at home? •

• •

ES: Do you have a Bible at home at your reading level? Ask your mom or dad to read the Bible with you every night at mealtime or before bed. MS: Share a favorite Bible passage and why it is meaningful to you. Parents: Ms. Basl posts a daily Scripture by the daycare checkout to encourage parents. What ways can you incorporate Bible reading in your home or your interactions with your kids?

Girls Volleyball: The Lady Tigers got the season off to a strong start picking up a win against Baymonte Christian in 2 straight games. A challenging 4 game week saw the girls grow and improve as a team in many different ways. With a current record on 2-3, the Tigers will look to even up their record on April 30 as they take on Legacy Christian at the Campbell Community Center. Boys Soccer: The boys soccer team defeated Campbell Christian by a score of 4-0 in the first game of the season. Led by a strong group of 8th grade boys and talented underclassmen, the boys expect to have a successful season in the South division. Next game: 5/2 vs. Baymonte Christian @ SJCS 3:30

Tiger Tracks Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of SJCS In the Spot Light Ms. Kim Basl and the SJCS Extended Care Program: A 24—7 Faith Journey by Mrs. Baham

When Kim Basl thinks about her work as Extended Care Director at SJCS, she bases plans and decisions from a belief that our faith journey is 24-7. “I want kids to be able to ask questions and have someone who can guide them toward wise and godly choices. Living for God is something that happens throughout the day, not just during school hours.” Ms. Basl focuses on three SJCS Throughlines: GROWING BELIEVERS who understand who God is and what His will is for the world, WISE DECISION MAKERS who use discernment to guide their actions and choices, and ENGAGED CITIZENS who follow Christ by seeking to create peace and rectify injustice. Many parents, including myself, find daily blessing in the Scripture verses posted by the checkout. “I started writing the daily scripture when I noticed parents coming to pick up distracted and stressed from their day. I want them to look over and be touched by God in a way that only God knows they need. I believe these scriptures are a way for God to show them that He cares for their needs in a particular way.” Extended Care is a time where many decisions are made as students play and do homework. Ms. Basl and her team practice a Love and Logic technique when problems arise. “When a student brings a problem to us, we give suggestions and then hand the problem back. Students practice making wise choices.” An important goal is for students to show respect through communication and action. The focus is on preparing students to live as Jesus Christ modeled for us. Ms. Basl also oversees the Extended Care staff. Her leadership model fosters increased leadership skills in her staff as she models best practices. She knows the importance of a strong staff. “What a blessing it is to know that kids love being in the Extended Care program and parents have trust in the program offered here.” If your child attends the daycare program, be sure to ask about Miracle Monday, Serve Others Tuesday, and the group poster projects shown here. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
