February Board Meeting Summary Last Monday, the Board of Trustees held its February meeting. Board meetings are categorized as either strategic meetings or regular business meetings, and this month’s gathering was a strategic meeting. The bulk of the meeting was spent engaged in strategic discussion that focused on the future of SJCS. Topics included: • What challenges about the 2015-16 school year are you attempting to address today? • What new programs will you be offering in 3 years? • In what ways is your school different than 10 years ago? 5 years ago? • How has SJCS improved what it already does and demonstrated innovation by creating something new? • What metrics give us the best picture of the health and quality of our school? • How do we know our mission is being accomplished, and how can we advance toward our mission? • What kind of training do trustees need in order to do their jobs well right from the start of their terms?
Twice yearly, SJCS hosts town hall meetings to keep the community informed of what is happening at school and have dialogue about topics of interest to those in attendance. The Spring Town Hall is Monday, March 11 at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Come to the meeting to: • Skype with new SJCS Principal, Dave Intlekofer. Hear about Dave’s background, his passions, and what he hopes to do when he begins in July. • Hear from a faculty panel about what they love and appreciate about SJCS. • Find out about new programs for next year and some of the big ideas for the years ahead. We hope to see you there!
Re-enrollment: Is Your Class Winning?
This year, we are conducting a reenrollment competition between the classes. The Grand Prize will be given to the first class to re-enroll 100% of its students, and any other classes that meet that goal will also receive a reward. Today’s top-three leaderboard is: • Enering 7th Grade – 95% • Entering 3rd Grade – 83% In thinking about the future of our school, • Entering 4th Grade – 81% there is a great foundation on which to Get your re-enrollment in today, and help build, and we are excited about the unique lead your class to victory! possibilities in the years ahead. The board looks forward to sharing these ideas with the community and soliciting feedback to help with prioritization and strategic planning. We appreciate your prayers and support.

The camp will be a mix of fun and education built around weekly themes from various countries. Students will learn about various cultures through cooking, sports, science labs, demonstrations and workshops, and incredible field trips. Tracy McElhone, camp director, can’t wait to share what’s in store for your children, and you can watch the Tiger Tracks and school website for more information in the weeks ahead. Registration information is already available so don’t miss out. Book your seat for this summer’s Global Adventure!
Preschool News What’s happening in Preschool? Recently the 3-4 year olds were invited to participate in an on-campus soccer clinic. SoccerShots comes every Wednesday from 11:00am to 11:30am. It is a 12-week season, and almost all of our eligible preschool students signed. This high energy, age appropriate program introduces the game of soccer to our students and gives our teachers an opportunity to talk with kids about how we take care of the bodies that God has given us. For more information visit http://www.soccershots.org. Just so you know, the SJCS Preschool currently serves students from age 2 to Jr. Kindergarten, and we look forward to the fall when we will expand our program to include infant care.
