CPTA News CPTA September Meeting Summary The CPTA held its kick off meeting on September 28th. A summary of the discussion is below. CPTA Leadership Currently the CPTA is looking for parents who are interested in serving in a leadership role on the CPTA. Interested parents should contact a member of the CPTA Steering Committee or Betsy Phillips, CPTA Advisor for additional details. Steering Committee members are: Steve Findley, Lilly Kleinberg, Emily Rios, April McKie, Janelle Hendricks, and Wesley Fachner. Event Recap The meeting included discussions about back to school events and what can be included to help parents and students make a smooth transition back to school. CPTA Coffee Cart The CPTA would like to continue with the one a month hosted coffee morning and is seeking volunteers to help with the service each month. Middle School Back-to-School Night This event went well. Some parents with multiple children would like to attend all classrooms, and the group tried to brainstorm some ideas for that, while also keeping the event to a manageable length for a school night. Staggering the class times may help. The group thought about using some kind of video presentation for the parents who could not attend. Passive Fundraising The members present discussed the idea of Dine Out evenings and other optional fundraisers to raise money and build community. It was determined that a few Dine Out evenings in combination with a Jamba Juice and possible Yougurt Land event should be researched. Dates are currently being explored to meet with the school calendar. Science Night Science Night can be a very popular event, and the majority of people at the meeting were interested in attending. The discussion led to Stacy Brooks doing research for an off site Science experience, possibly at the Tech Museum. Parent Education Night Topics for Parent Education Nights were discussed, and 2 top ideas surfaced. 1) Internet Safety 2) Awareness of Autism: how to work with these unique behaviors. Additional research is underway.
