Jenn’s Pen - Grace - Gratitude - God’s Glory by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson A HUGE thank you to all who attended this year’s Going Places, Doing Things auction. What a wonderful evening. It took a strong team to plan, prepare, facilitate, and make it happen. Thanks to you, too! God continues to be generously faithful to SJCS! Everything that God does for us is FREE and undeserved. Not too many things in today’s world are free, except maybe someone else’s used treasures. But the best gift ever is free. We are infinitely in debt to God for his grace. John Piper says that “Gratitude is joy toward God for His grace.” So, have GREAT JOY! A life that gives glory to God for his grace and a life of deepest gladness are always the same life. What makes them one and the same, is gratitude, and that life brings glory to God. Grace – Gratitude – God’s Glory
Auction Results On Saturday Night, about 170 supporters of San Jose Christian School got together at the Campbell Community Center to enjoy some fellowship and raise money for our school. The specific causes for this year’s event included 10 laptops, 30 iPads, 4 projectors and classroom enhancements. In planning the event, our different needs totaled just under $75,000. With the auction proceeds still being totaled today, we have brought in over $96,000—our highest amount ever! We praise God for His provision for our school, and we thank you for your generosity! If you see members of the auction planning team this week, please congratulate them for a job well done.
200 Tubes Needed This Week! For everyone who was waiting until the last minute to turn in their M&M tubes, the last minute has arrived! Our competition ends this week, and we are at 255 tubes of our 450 tube goal. Let's join together as a community to be the hands of Christ to starving children around the world. In addition to quarters, we can also accept cash or checks (and it still counts toward your child's total). Ask your children how close to their class goal they are (4th grade is closest!).
Quarter 3 Report Cards Report Cards for Quarter 3 will be sent home by the end of the week. Also included in the envelope will be the score sheets resulting from the TeraNova Testing. Be sure to check with your student to make sure you receive all of this information.

Tiger Tracks SJCS Dads (A prayer & fellowship opportunity for Dads!) SJCS Dads is a new group created by an SJCS Dad to gather, encourage and support dads to thrive as Jesus Christ following dads of SJCS students. SJCS Dads is a dynamic program designed to come alongside dads of SJCS students, enabling them to be part of a community of Jesus followers through fellowship, prayer, fun, educational and practical life experiences. SJCS Dads are men who share a desire to be the very best dads they can be! This group encourages by offering fellowship, resources, recommendations and occasional speakers who instruct in topics pertinent to our roles as dads, husbands, and men in and outside of the SJCS community. SJCS Dads will meet twice monthly, on the first and last Thursdays of the month at 8:45 to 10am at a location to be determined. Contact Dan St. Peter at danstpeter@gmail.com for more details.
Teacher Tales: Calming An Anxious Child Every child experiences anxiety in one form or another. A typical (and understandable) parental response is to try to remove children from any situation that makes them anxious. However, it is much more valuable to instill coping skills that help children work through their anxiety on their own—this skill will serve them their entire life. PsychCentral wrote a helpful blog entry (linked here) of 49 calming phrases that can help children navigate their anxiety. I encourage you to read the article, but here are a few examples of statements you can use to help your child:
Join the SJCS Association
“Can you draw it?”—Art gives an outlet for feelings that are hard to express with words.
Each May, we hold the annual SJCS Association Meeting in which our Association members vote in new trustees and approve the budget for the upcoming school year.
“What will happen next?”—Thinking through an event can help keep it in perspective.
Association membership is available to anyone over 18 who has a love for SJCS and supports the school’s statement of faith. Annual dues are $10. Membership applications are available in the office. If you are already a member, please watch for meeting materials the week of April 17. This year’s Association meeting is Monday, May 9 at 7pm in the SJCS Auditorium.
Sports this
week
REMINDER: Please turn in all athletic uniforms to the office once the season has been completed.
Girls Soccer: Please turn in all participation documents and pay the sports fee to the office. Monday: SJCS vs. Baymonte Christian @ SJCS 3:30 Tuesday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Wednesday: SJCS vs. Campbell Christian @ Campbell Christian 3:30 Thursday: Practice 3:15-4:45
“Remember when…”—Remind your child of a previous time they were anxious where everything turned out great. “Tell me the worst thing that could possibly happen?”— Once you’ve imagined the worst, talk about the likelihood of it happening. Then ask the child about the best possible outcome, and then the most likely outcome. This will help the child think through the event more accurately.
Tiger Cubs Check this section each week for exciting news about our youngest Tigers! Illness Reminder If your child is ill or has an injury, please make sure to notify the school. In the case of a contagious disease (even if it manifests over the weekend), it is important for us to alert other families in the case of possible exposure. It is always our goal to provide the healthiest learning environment possible, and this will help us to ensure the best for your child's learning.
