Feedback Requested

by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson

SJCS strives to offer the best education possible for every student, and your feedback helps make that possible. As you know, we have changed our math curriculum this year, and we are looking for feedback from you on how things are progressing. Please check your email this evening for a link from Mr. Intlekofer to a brief survey. As always, Mr. I and Mrs. Thompson have open doors if you would like to stop in and talk.

I am loving the Fall. Cool mornings with clear skies. Colored leaves falling and gathering on the ground. These are vivid memories of my childhood. Click on this link to read a bit more about those years from long ago and some great memories from my children about growing up in Christian education.

Parent Education Night Education Savings Seminar The SJCS CPTA is hosting a Parent Education Night this Thursday, November 19 from 7pm - 8pm in the auditorium. This event is for parents with students in every age category. Jeremy Geels, parent of 3 children and Financial Advisor from Edward Jones will be sharing information and tools to help families plan for future education expenses. Jeremy’s information will help you in planning not only for college but for continuing in Christian education in the years ahead. Refreshments will be provided. Please plan to attend.

Please help Fill the Barrels! Once again, SJCS is partnering with City Team Ministries to help those in need. Every day 1 in 4 families are turned away from local food pantries simply because there is not enough food. By joining City Team in this food drive, we can make a difference and Fill the Pantry so that no one has to go to bed hungry. Please bring your donations in by Wednesday as City Team will be picking up on Thursday.

Annual Book Fair The Scholastic Book Fair is coming this week! Buying books for your children earns us new books for the SJCS library as well. You may also purchase books for specific classrooms to be enjoyed by all the students. Please be sure to stop by Room 16 throughout the event!

Preschool “Tiger Cubs” Save the Date!

Thursday, December 10 at 6pm our Preschool students will be performing and celebrating the joys of Christmas in song. Please join us in the auditorium for this special event.

CPTA Meeting

All parents are invited to the CPTA meeting in the auditorium this Friday at 8:30am! Please attend!

Tiger Tracks Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

Spotlight on Accreditation As you may know, this year is a renewal year for our school accreditation, and we are pursuing dual accreditation from WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and CSI (Christian Schools International). The process involves an in depth self study, site visits and evaluation from WASC/CSI representatives, and a school improvement plan. It is a very valuable process for our school to focus on areas we can improve and celebrate the many things we do well. We are already seeing benefits from our efforts. Teachers and parent/Board volunteers have been hard at work since August gathering data and evaluating programs for our self study. “Phase 1” was completed last week when all data was submitted, and we had an initial site visit from WASC and CSI representatives on Monday. Our visiting team had WONDERFUL things to say about our teachers, our school, and our community. Although they were not allowed to show us their official report, they made it clear that this was a very good visit, and they gave a summary to us. Here are some highlights from their summary: 1. We have a clearly articulated mission, which is well understood and communicated by everyone they spoke to. 2. Strong commitment to the school from staff and parents. 3. Strong sense of community with cooperation and support for all students. 4. Higher level thinking skills evidenced in all classrooms (they made sure to accentuate this one, almost like that is a rare finding--saying, "literally everywhere I went, I saw this." Nice work, teachers!). 5. Friendly, caring staff; respectful, engaged students; involved parents; and committed Board. They also said, “one thing that is very commendable, and rare...everyone we talked to told the same story. Everyone--parents, students, staff, Board. It's clear that you know who you are and what you do, and everyone is involved in the improvement process at SJCS. That is a great thing.” Well done, everyone!
