Jenn’s Pen by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson Let me state the obvious – January is a very busy month! There are many opportunities for us to gather in small and large groups as a community, so I hope you’ve already marked your calendars with the many events you’ll find listed on this week’s Tiger Tracks! Several of our events - Touch a Truck and the School Showcase - are wonderful occasions to invite your friends to come to SJCS and experience firsthand what makes us great. We are a hidden gem, I have heard that many times, but we want to be sure that the local community knows what God is doing on our campus! I cannot wait to see you on campus and celebrate the talents of our students and the gift that this school is to each of us. James 1:17 reminds us that, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Let’s be sure that we are sharing the gift of San Jose Christian School with others.

The Trucks are Coming! We are only 2 weeks away from our first-ever Touch a Truck! This event is free and open to public, so invite all your friends for a great day of fun. There will also be an optional donation to 4Others, raising money to feed starving children. We already have many trucks lined up (fire engine, SWAT truck, food trucks, trolley, construction trucks, and much more!), and we're hoping to get even more. Please plan on coming to this awesome event, 10am-2pm on January 23rd. If you would like to volunteer your time, talk to Mr. I.
January 12-SJCS Showcase Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12, we are hosting our second SJCS Showcase event of the year. This event is for families interested in attending SJCS. Prospective families will have an opportunity meet our outstanding teachers, tour our campus and hear testimonials from current students and parents. There is still time for you to invite your friends and family to check out SJCS! The event agenda is available on line at www.sjchristian.org/ showcase.
Tiger Tracks Save the Date 3-5 Musical
Bridge Fund update As of January 5, 2016, we have raised over 60% of the $200,000.00 goal that we set for this year’s Bridge Fund annual financial drive. That is good, but I am looking for GREAT! Participation from faculty and staff and the Board of Trustees is at a record pace this year, so please join with us and consider becoming part of the bridge building team if you haven’t already done so. There is still an opportunity to make your gift count in a big way this year. It is with many hands that the whole bridge will be built.
Love & Logic Parenting Class at SJCS As you begin to look to the new year we encourage you to consider taking the upcoming Love & Logic Parenting classes that will begin tonight. This parenting program is designed to give you practical skills that can be used right away! Contact the school office if you are interested in joining the class.
Chess Club starts next week! Chess club will be held on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15. Be sure to sign up on chesswizards.com/register. See Mr. I with any questions.

Livin' Inside Out...How do we make sense in this upside-down world? God's word tells us that "What You are after, Lord, is truth...from the inside out!" (Psalm 51:6) That's exactly what this musical is about--God's truth changing us to live inside out. Join the SJCS 3rd, 4th and 5th grades in the SJCS auditorium on Friday night (7 PM) or Saturday afternoon (2 PM) as they present this enjoyable musical based on our school theme. Tickets are free, but must be reserved. January 19-22 reservations can be made by the 3-5 families (6 total tickets per family for either performance). January 25-29 will be open tickets for anyone who would like to attend.
Sports Update Girls Basketball:The Lady Tigers picked up two big wins this past week over Legacy Christian and Calvary Christian. The girls looked good on offense, moving the ball and making good passes which led to quality shots. The Lady Tigers are continuously improving and building on each game this season. They will close out the year with two games this week. Boys Basketball: Last week the Tigers jumped out to an early lead by sharing the ball and led Campbell Christian by 9 points through three quarters. But the Tigers defense collapsed and committed too many turnovers and lost the game, 27-22. Two days later, the Tigers redeemed themselves and smothered Calvary Christian through pressing and trapping, which led to many points in transition. All 16 boys played in the game and the bench scored 22 points led by Matt who made 3 baskets, and Nate and Colin added 4 points each. Matthew and Jared led the team and each scored 8 points. This was a great team victory over Calvary Christian, 48-26.

Tiger Tracks Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School Teacher Tales—Pastor Breakfast --by Jennifer Baham "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2 This year's SJCS 8th Grade students pray weekly for local pastors. Each student prays for a specific pastor, the pastor's family, upcoming church events, and requests shared on the church site. On January 5, the 8th Grade students enjoyed opportunity to talk with many of the pastors 1:1 at a breakfast hosted by Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Phillips. The students LOVED it! Over the breakfast time I heard "I am praying for you." "This 8th grader is the reason I am on campus today." The next day in class I heard, "I thought it would be awkward, but the pastors were so easy to talk to." "I liked the chance to meet the pastor I have been praying for." This is just one of the many events throughout the year that express SJCS' Throughlines. A LOVE FOR GOD Growing believers possess hope, share truth with others, and defend their faith intelligently Healthy people strive for spiritual health through prayer, Scripture reading, and church attendance. Healthy people hold a loving self-image as well as a loving view of others, both the friend and the stranger. A DESIRE TO LEARN Effective communicators ask productive and meaningful questions. Collaborative workers listen to others and value their opinions. A COMMITMENT TO SERVE Humble servants consider others' needs and actively serve them. Responsible stewards balance their wants and needs with those of others. "Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always." 1 Chronicles 16:11
Tiger Cubs Check this section each week for exciting news about our youngest Tigers! Welcome Tiffany Okoye! We are pleased to present Ms. Tiffany! Ms. Tiffany is the newest teacher to join the preschool. She will share her time between the Dragonfly and Firefly classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Ms. Tiffany has been an excellent addition to the preschool team with her positive attitude and fun nature! Reminder: Infant Care and Preschool are OPEN this Friday!
