Jenn’s Pen - Board of Trustees by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson At the February 22 Board of Trustees meeting, the administration had an opportunity to thank the Trustee leadership of San Jose Christian School for their commitment to serve and govern the school. Our seven Board members, Scott Kleinberg (President), Michelle Rock (Vice President), Curt Sacks (Treasurer), Nancy Rivas (Secretary), Jonathan Fung, Jason Nesdahl and Karen Wynbeek meet monthly, and serve on committees to manage policies, finances, and maintain our mission as we plan for the future of SJCS. Please thank them for their service when you see them, and pray for them regularly. You received a Board update in January, and tonight, March 7, I hope to see you in attendance at the Spring Town Hall meeting as we talk about the state of the school. At the recent February Board meeting, topics of discussion included the possibility of growth at several grade levels, new admissions policies for incoming students with regard to admission testing and family interviews, updates from teachers and the Community Development office on events both in the classroom and in the school at large as well as our upcoming April accreditation visit and the School Improvement and Strategic Plan. All of these topics will be presented at the town hall, but if you cannot attend, don’t hesitate to talk to me or to a Board of Trustees member. We are here to serve YOU, the best school community I know! Be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithful with all you hearts; consider the great things he has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:24
#OneDayOffline Reminder: we will have a completely tech-free day on Thursday of this week. Please join us in one day free of phones/internet/computers/screens and plan a fun activity with your family for that evening. No homework will be given on that night.

More Clubs! We've had a fantastic response to our mini-session of clubs, with 60 signups! We will be running a full 6-week session of clubs after Easter break, and it will include a variety of new clubs to choose from. Look for the signup sheet next week. Chess Club and Mad Science will also be returning for that 6-week session, and there will be a promotional presentation for Mad Science this Wednesday.
Service Project We will launch our school-wide service project this Friday. Just like last year, we will raise money (quarters) to help feed starving children around the world. Please send your child with $1 for their homeroom teacher this week in order to purchase their first M&M tube (or better yet, have them earn $1 to bring in).
Tiger Tracks Teacher Tales: Spotlight on Fine Arts Festival by: Mrs. Jennifer Baham & Mr. Dave Intlekofer This Thursday, March 10, forty solos and ensembles representing fifty-two students in grades 5-8 will present in front of two local music adjudicators. Students sign up for Fine Arts Festival (FAF) in December. They prepare music at home and at school from January to March. Since SJCS students enjoy FAF so much, we have our very own SJCS performance day so that all students can benefit from the experience. Local music educators give positive and constructive feedback to every entry. They also choose which of the soloists and ensembles are most prepared to present at the CSI festival in May. Each school can send a limited number of entries in vocal music, instrumental music, creative writing, public speaking, and visual art. This year's FAF will be held at a new CSI school in Merced, California, on Friday, May 6. SJCS students historically represent both God and school well at this event. Students attend each other's performances, encourage each other, and enjoy the shared experience of offering their gifts as a community. Here are some quotes from current “veterans”: Carmelina: My favorite Fine Arts Festival memory is when I was in 6th grade and I was looking at the art and I saw an award that said "Superior" on my artwork. I was so happy because I was proud of my painting and other people saw value in it. Danielle: When I had first come to SJCS I really did not like playing a musical instrument in front of people, because I was not sure how well I would play. As I was growing with the SJCS community I realized that it is ok to mess up and you can learn from your mistakes. With FAF I saw that I had an opportunity to be able to get tips to help me improve as a musician and still have fun with friends. Jared: I try out for FAF because of the feeling of achievement that I feel during and after completing a song. I see the work and time as a chance to look into myself and see the passion that I feel as a musician and a student of one amazing music teacher. The SJCS FAF tryouts support our Throughlines. The 5-8 students who prepare for and attend FAF are: • Growing Believers who understand who God is and what His will is for the world. • Healthy People who strive for well-being in every aspect of their lives. • Active Learners who take ownership of their education and strive to do their best in every aspect of their learning. • Effective Communicators who speak, write, and listen purposefully and skillfully. • Wise Decision-Makers who use discernment to guide their actions and choices. • Collaborative Workers who learn together in a community where everyone can contribute and excel. • Humble Servants who put the needs of others before their own. • Responsible Stewards who use their gifts and manage their resources to further God's kingdom.

Tiger Cubs Check this section each week for exciting news about our youngest Tigers! Lost and Found The Lost and Found (located in the office) is full of Preschool items. Please check it for anything your child may be missing. There are several jackets that have been placed there over the last couple of weeks. Service Project The Preschool will be participating in our school-wide service project, which starts next week. We will be raising money for 4Others, an organization dedicated to feeding starving children. For this project, we will be filling M&M minis tubes with quarters and returning them to school. We would love every preschool student to participate, so if you'd like to join the fun, please give $1 to your teacher to purchase the M&M tube.
This year the 56th Annual Fine Arts Festival will be held on May 6, at Providence Christian School. The FAF is a showcase event for students to gather and celebrate the many gifts God has blessed them with. FAF covers areas of vocal and instrumental solos and ensembles; essays, dramatic, and humorous speaking, Bible memorization, readers’ theater and art. This is a chance for our students to show others’ their many skills and to see other students’ skills all the while performing for God. In the past few years, the majority of our entrants have been in the areas of music and vocals and we would very much like to encourage our 5th through 8th grade students to participate in the various writing and speaking areas. Please encourage your child to participate in this year’s FAF and be a exemplary representative of SJCS! Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. I or Mrs. Singh in the office.

Tiger Tracks Auction FAQ's- Tickets are now available visit sjchristian.org/tickets Why Attend the Spring Auction? There are a few key reasons to attend the Spring Auction. 1) This is a great evening of fellowship and a fun night out. 2) This year the event will financially benefit continued technology growth and classroom upgrades. Both of these items impact every person on campus. 3) The Spring Auction is a great way to connect with other SJCS parents. We are stronger together and building community is an integral part of what makes SJCS an awesome school.
I have never attended the auction…why start now? All parents, preschool and up should consider attending the the auction. You should also invite friends, neighbors, aunts, uncles and Grandparents (Grandparents especially enjoy this event!). This event offers a wide variety of activities. We understand that many people feel they cannot contribute at this type of fundraiser or benefit event but we attempt to have something for everyone. You can also just attend the auction and enjoy the appetizers, desserts, and refreshments.
Is Childcare provided? Yes, SJCS provides on-site child care for children ages (3 and above). The cost is $20/family.
What is the “Attendance Competition?” This year we will be holding a class competition. The class with the highest average parent attendance will receive $150 toward their class activity fund. This will be awarded in two installments: $75 for the 15-16 school year and $75 for the 16-17 school year (the money follows the students!) This is a big deal for our teachers and your students. The class activity fund helps provide tools in your classrooms, such as: learning manipulatives, books, and special supplies.
What is the cost to attend? This year we will also be offering a ticket incentive. By securing your reservation at sjchristian.org/tickets between March 7 and April 5 attendees are able to buy 3 tickets and get the fourth FREE! Tickets are $40/individual. After April 5 tickets will be $45/individual.
I would like to donate an item or service - how do I do this? Please contact the school office and they will connect you to a member of the auction team.
Where is the auction held? This year the auction will be held at the Campbell Community Center in the Orchard Ballroom.
What is the attire for the event? We suggest dressy casual attire - slacks and sport coat or button down shirt for gentleman and dress or slacks for ladies. For additional information please contact the school office. We are happy to answer your questions.
