Fall Town Hall Tonight

by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson

The SJCS Fall Town Hall meeting is an important communication opportunity for parents. Plan to attend to stay informed on what is happening in and around SJCS. Not sure if you should attend? The answer is YES!

At San Jose Christian School, PRAYER HAPPENS. That is an awesome statement! One of the best experiences that I have at school is listening to students pray for their teachers, their moms and dads, their classmates, and hear their gratitude for all God has done for them. Those sweet prayers can be heard daily, but last week, the first grade class was practicing in earnest. I visited them as they practiced their “five finger prayer” and what a blessing I received. (If you stop by, they would love another customer to pray for!)

Moms in Prayer is active here as well, and a few weeks ago, they walked the campus in prayer for teachers, your families, and our students. Each week MIP gathers to pray very specifically for the needs of our school and to express gratefulness to God for His blessings. That we cover each other in prayer regularly makes SJCS a special place that is God-honoring and God-seeking. That makes us distinctive. That makes us God’s school. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil. 4:6

Extended Care ALL students must have their forms completed to continue using the extended care program. Please contact Kimberly Basl at kbasl@sjchristian.org with questions.

Veteran’s Day Assembly On November 11, we will be holding a Veteran’s Day assembly for students. If you have a picture of a current or past family member who has served in the armed forces, please send it to Mrs. Thompson to use during the assembly. Parents are welcome and invited to attend.

October Box Tops Everyone is doing a great job bringing in your Box Tops. Please note that the Box Tops do have an expiration date. We look forward to announcing the winning class in early November once all the Box Tops are counted.

P/T Conferences The deadline to sign up for your Parent Teacher Conference is this Wednesday, at 5pm. If you have not selected a conference time, one will be selected for you. Reminder: all middle school students must attend their conference.

Annual SJCS Book Fair The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to SJCS on 11/17-11/23. Buying books for your children earns us new books for the SJCS library as well. You may also purchase books for specific classrooms to be enjoyed by all the students. Watch for the link to sign up to help with a sales shift. Additional information will be coming soon.

Tiger Tracks SJCS Music Program Choir Our SJCS choir will be leading worship at the San Jose Christian Reformed Church on Sunday, November 15 during the 10am service. (SJCRC - 5150 Camden Avenue, San Jose) This is a great opportunity to worship together, experience the SJCS music program, witness our students serving in the community, and support one of the founding churches of SJCS. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

The Mission of SJCS The mission of SJCS is to advance the kingdom of God by providing exceptional teaching and curriculum fully integrated with Biblical perspective. Within our committed Christian community, we live to engage and transform culture for Jesus Christ.

SPORTS UPDATE Cross Country Our SJCS team hosted a 2 mile race on campus last week and the Tigers represented! Great job by the entire team. Finishing times for the team were: Colby 13:32, Ethan 14:33, Jacob 15:04, Nate 15:15, James 15:21, Micah 16:32, Ryan 16:40, Aaron 18:44, Olivia 18:54, Rachel 21:56. League finals are Friday, November 6 and we are excited for the strong finish to the season. Softball Our girls played very well last week. The girls started strong against the undefeated Baymonte team, but could not hold off Baymonte’s strong hitting and took a loss in that game. The Tigers rallied back the following day and battled to a GREAT win against the Los Gatos Lions. The final score was 8-7 in favor of the the Tigers. The girls finished 3rd in league play and head to the first round of playoffs in Concord on Tuesday against Tabernacle Christian. Boys Basketball The boys basketball team will be coached this year by Mr. Jonathan Fung aka "Dr. J", who is returning for his 4th season. Coach Fung is a professor at Santa Clara University and Pastor at a local church. He has been a part of the SJCS community for many years now. His daughter, Ayla, is currently in 6th grade. Coach Fung works hard to develop his players spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Girls Basketball Our girls basketball team will be coached by Mr. Bost and Mrs. Nibbelink. Practices begin today. We are excited to see what the girls will accomplish this year.

Tiger Tracks Special Section of the Tiger Tracks for our Preschool “Tiger Cubs” Daylight Savings: Time to Fall Back! To help your child's sleep schedule stay as close to normal as possible, it is helpful to take the week before a time change and adjust bedtime/wake time a little bit. Every night for the week leading up to the change, push back the normal bedtime by about 15 minutes, increasing each night. The time change in fall is not as hard as spring forward, yet it can interfere with one's sleep schedule. Reminder: Fall Fest is this Friday! Preschool is celebrating the fall with a party this Friday. Festivities will start at 10:00 and include a scavenger hunt, pumpkin decorating, and fun treats! Parents are welcome to attend.

Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

Second Grade “Mini Mes” In social studies the second graders have been learning about community and the different groups that contribute to our lives. Last week we talked about service jobs in our community. Each student chose a service job they would like and created a little “mini me” showing them doing that job with two tools they would use. Some even created business cards! This week we are interviewing different staff members at our school so that we can learn more about what they do as they serve our SJCS community. Students have been practicing various interview techniques and learning points of etiquette for their interviews. They will make videos on the ipad and share their interviews with the class next week. Thank you to everyone who works to serve our community!

Order Scrip. Save Money. Order Scrip! This simple program allows families to raise funds for SJCS and their own tuition while making everyday purchases.
