Jenn’s Pen - Early is On Time by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson

It is an honor and a privilege to work alongside you as we seek to educate

and engage your sons and daughters to transform the world for Jesus Christ. It has been a tremendous school year, and I have loved the many conversations with students of all ages who love San Jose Christian School. SJCS is a unique and special place where students are challenged to think and grow as students and as children of God as they develop their gifts and personalities. You have trusted us with your children, and we appreciate the partnership in which we LOVE-LEARN-SERVE together. You have many choices for your child’s education, and we think know that you have chosen very well! Thank you for your commitment and investment in a Christ-centered education where we seek to be faithful stewards of our resources in raising up a generation of children for God’s glory This week, you will receive your re-enrollment packet. Look it over carefully, pray for God’s leading, and partner with us for next year. God calls us to live in Christian community, and San Jose Christian School is committed living out Philippians 2 together. Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being likeminded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

ACCELERATED READER – ALL SCHOOL CHALLENGE The challenge is on! If SJCS students rally together and read a total of 150,000 pages between now and the end of the school year, we will have a school wide celebration on the last day of school! Please note that this is a change from previous years when individual students received gift cards.

Tiger Cubs Check this section each week for exciting news about our youngest Tigers! The Importance of Being on Time With the new year in full swing, we want to remind families of the importance of being on time. School starts precisely at 8:30am. When students arrive late to class, they are often missing some of the most vital activities in Preschool. Students can fall behind and feel out of place when they miss something. It can also cause distraction for other students who are already in class Please remember to give extra time for parking, since the school parking lot is extremely busy at 8:30. An additional note: With the cold and wet weather this winter, please make sure your child has a warm jacket, extra clothes, and possibly extra shoes or rain boots. We like to make sure the students have outdoor time as much as possible, and we run the risk of mud and puddles! We want the students to stay warm and dry. Also, please label items so they do not get lost.

Boys Soccer: Please fill out and turn in all sports participation documents for your student if you have not already done so. Monday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Tuesday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Wednesday: Practice TBA Thursday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Friday: Practice 3:15-4:45

Girls Volleyball: Please fill out and turn in all sports participation documents for your student if you have not already done so. Monday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Tuesday: Practice 3:15-4:45 Wednesday: TBA Thursday: Practice 3:15-4:45

Tiger Tracks Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School Teacher Tales—Spotlight on Miss D'Alessandro --by Mr. I We are thrilled to welcome Miss D'Alessandro to our SJCS faculty as our new Middle School Science and Math teacher. Lindsey has been here one week, and she is already fitting in well and doing a fantastic job. Here's a little more about her from her bio: Professional Biography: I graduated from Cairn University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania in December of 2015 with my Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies and my Master's Degree in Education. In the Spring of 2015 I completed my Master's Thesis on integrating children's literature into the mathematics and science curriculum. My certification area is Middle Level Education with subject area concentrations in mathematics and science. I student taught in the Fall of 2015 in a fifth grade public school classroom in Pennsylvania, and at an international Christian school, teaching middle school math and science in Malang, Indonesia. I am excited to start my teaching career so soon after graduation, and especially at San Jose Christian School! Personal Biography: I grew up in Maple Shade, New Jersey, right over the bridge from Philadelphia, and attended a small Christian school throughout all of my K-12 years. I grew up in a Christian family and have two wonderful parents, two older sisters, and one younger brother. I enjoy spending time with my family, watching tv shows and movies with my sister, reading, scrapbooking, and going for walks. Christian Philosophy of Education: I believe that as a Christian educator it is part of my responsibility to model for students what it looks like to daily walk with the Lord and depend on Him. I also believe that it is my responsibility as an educator to teach students how to think about what they are learning in school—whether it be literature, mathematics, science or social studies—from a biblical worldview. One of the reasons that I love science is because I firmly believe that the study of science points us to our Creator. Psalm 19:1-2 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge." Romans 1:20 talks about how God reveals Himself through creation. "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." It is my hope as a science educator to teach science in such a way that brings my students to a deeper understanding of who God is, and to praise and glorify Him as a result.
