Spread the Word: Open House on January 25 We have the chance to share our story with a larger audience at our Open House on Saturday January 25, from 10am - 1pm. If our current families find at least one other family to invite to the Open House, we’ll be sure to have a great turnout. Please use these next two weeks to make contact and invite someone who will help us grow the school. The attachment to the Tiger Tracks lays out the agenda for the day.

Tiger Tracks January Series Lectures This Week The January Series of lectures kicked off with three incredible speakers last week. See this week’s topics below, and make time to be at the auditorium from 9:30 - 10:30am to get your free liberal arts education. Tuesday: Nicole Baker Fulgham, “Educating All God’s Children.” Fulgham is the president and founder of The Expectations Project, a group that mobilizes people of faith to support public education reform and close the achievement gap. Wednesday: Zachary Karabell, “Trend and Repeat: What History and Economics can Teach us about the Future.” Designated a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum, Karabell brings a profound and refreshingly optimistic outlook to a world economy in crisis.. Thursday: Michael K. Le Roy, “The Sustainability of Higher Education and the Future of Calvin College.” Appointed last year as the 10th president of Calvin College, Le Roy will share his thoughts on the landscape of higher education and Calvin’s place in it. Friday: Linda Smith, “Renting Lacy: A Story of America’s Prostituted Children.” Based on international visits while she was serving in Congress, Smith felt compelled to found Shared Hope International, and organization dedicated to bringing an end to worldwide sex trafficking. Monday: John M. Perkins, “Love is the Final Fight: Reflections of an American Civil Rights and Social Justice Activist.” The son of a Mississippi sharecropper, Perkins is one of the leading evangelical voices to come out of the civil rights movement.
Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories of teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School. Before the Christmas Break, Mrs. Baham encouraged her Band and Choir classes to find opportunities to perform their music for people. Some played for their families. Some played in church. One group of kids went a little outside the box though. They took their instruments up and down Lincoln Avenue in downtown Willow Glen, asking shop owners if they could play some Christmas carols for them. Many were happy to oblige, and our students had the chance to brighten the days of passers by who were out doing their Christmas shopping. The quartet ended up their track at the home of the Rocks, and you can check out some samples of the performances in the videos below. Congratulations to these young people for embodying what we preach in our tagline—a commitment to serve.

Tiger Sports Spotlight Girls Basketball Last week, the girls beat Baymonte 23-11, shaking off the rust from a long break. Defense and tenacity were the keys. The team handled Baymonte’s pressure well and didn’t turn the ball over very much. Milan played great, composed game, and 4 different girls scored. In the second game of the week, SJCS stayed undefeated in league, beating Achiever 35-26. The girls came out pressing, led the whole game, and never looked back. EK, Rivas, Vasiliki, and Emily took turns shutting down their best player. Alicia, Naomi D, and KG played solid and held down the post. Milan, and Nia played the wings consistently. Emma, and Anna both came in and contributed to the victory.
Boys Basketball The Boys Basketball Team played 3 tough games last week and had a great team win over Baymonte, 31-16. Calvin led all scorers, hitting two 3-pointers totaling 10 points. Atheer scored inside, contributing 9 points. Matthew had 4 points, Joe 4 points, and Michael and Josh added 2 points each. The Tigers battled hard playing aggressively and made a run in the 4th quarter against both Legacy and Achiever but came up a little short. Dylan led the come from behind charges with tough defense along with Joe, Josh and Calvin trapping and forcing turnovers, which lead to quick fast break scoring opportunities. The SJCS fans were amazing screaming and cheering for the Tigers. Dr. J (aka Coach Fung) is very proud of the boys playing their hearts out and playing for each other. Tigers end their season with playing 4 games this week. Come and cheer for the team!
