Volunteer Appreciation Week

Lost & Found Shopping

We appreciate our volunteers! So much of what we do at SJCS would not be possible without the help of parents, grandparents and supporters who organize events, help in our classrooms, chaperone our field trips, and so much more. Please take advantage of our special volunteer appreciation activities this week:

At this point, everything left in the Lost and Found is considered unclaimed. We will be setting up the tables this week for people to take whatever they want, and then we will put the remaining items into textile recycling on Friday.

We are in need of volunteers to help with painting, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, hauling tan bark and possibly more. We’d love your help. Snacks or lunch will be included, of course! Come beautify your favorite school! Contact Betsy Lindemulder (betsy.lindemulder@gmail.com) or Mary Schrotenboer (mary@schrotenboer.com) for details.

Scrip Orders Due Friday Please turn in your orders for Scrip by Friday or make sure you place them online by that time. The orders will arrive by the middle of next week.

Tiger Tracks The Auction Is Coming! One of the most enjoyable events for the SJCS community every year is the annual auction. This year’s event will be on Saturday April 12 at 6pm at the Campbell Community Center. We hope to see all of year there. The

auction supports special projects at school, and the funds we raise help SJCS offer our students outstanding 21st Century education. Attached to the Tiger Tracks today, you will find an auction donation form to use if you have something to contribute to the event.

Yearbook Updates Remember to get online and order your 2013-14 SJCS yearbooks. If you have any pictures of students or school events, please send them to Beverly Singh (bsing@sjchristian.org) who assembles the book.

Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories of teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School. If I Only Had a Green Nose: Last week Thursday, the 4th grade class, led by Ms. Ashley Laverman, was responsible for chapel for our JK - 4th grade students. This year, our chapels have explored the theme “New Identity” with our students and what it means to have an identity in Christ. The class used a reader’s theater version of Max Lucado’s story, “If I Only Had a Green Nose,” to illustrate what it means to be secure about our identity in Christ. The story features Punchinello, one of the Wemmicks created by the craftsman, Eli wanting to join a trend and have his nose painted green. Just like Punchinello, we all want to fit in. To be accepted by the crowd. But at times that may mean we either have to look and act like others--or risk being rejected. Punchinello's hard-earned lesson shows us how important it is to be who we were created to be, and why that matters. So let this wonderful tale help you remember two things: that you were made unique for a reason, and that there is one who will always help you be you--wonderfully you. After the chapel, Ms. Laverman distributed follow-up questions to the other teachers to use in their classes, and they would make great discussion items for our families at home too: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Who does Eli represent in the story? Who do Lucia and Punchinello represent? What things do we kids do to fit in with others in our class? Why was Punchinello embarrassed when Lucia saw him with a green nose? Punchinello said early in the story that he would never get his nose painted. Why do you think he changed his mind? Lucia said that Eli was asking about Punchinello every day. What does this remind us about God? Eli said. “I’ll always help you be who I made you to be.” If being ourselves is what God wants, why do you think it hurt for Punchinello to become himself again? 8. At the end of the story what did Punchinello realize? 9. How can trusting God’s creation of my uniqueness help me have a “New Identity”? How does loving who God made me to be help me be new in Jesus?
