Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories of teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School. Mrs. DenOuden’s third grade class is reading the book, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown. In the book, Stanley gets crushed by a bulletin board in his room. He's fine, but now he's flat. Luckily for us, that means he can be folded into an envelope and sent anywhere in the world. This past week, the third graders each made their own Flat Stanley to put inside an envelope to mail to a friend or family member for a little adventure. We will be learning about geography and what life is like in different communities. We are hoping that Flat Stanley travels around the globe. For more information about Flat Stanley, try these websites: http://www.flatstanleybooks.com/ or http://www.flatstanley.com/ This great project combines reading, geography, and communication skills. We'll be posting pictures of Flat Stanley's adventures on our class Instagram, @docrew.
SCRIP: Everything You Need to Know Families and supporters of San Jose Christian School have a chance to use SCRIP to raise funds for our school and their own families. The wide variety of vendors who participate in SCRIP will give a percentage of each purchase back
to the school, and SJCS splits that amount with each family. Families can store up those credits for things like re-enrollment fees and tuition payments. It’s a win-win situation! To learn more about the ordering process for SCRIP and anything else you’d want to know, click on this video from the online version of the Tiger Tracks.

Tiger Sports Spotlight Softball The softball team took its first loss last Tuesday, falling to Los Gatos 19-2. Even in the loss, there were some great defensive plays: Kathryn, at catcher, helped the Tigers stop a grand slam, and both Natasha and Leena showed some nice glove work. “When we have a big loss, we need to evaluate what the key contributors are and adjust, and that’s exactly what the Tigers are going to do,” said coach Phillips. On Thursday, the girls bounced back in a non-league scrimmage against Campbell Christian. The game allowed our younger players to get some field time, and those rookies did a super job. Natasha found her pitching groove and struck out 6 batters. Sarah hit her way out of her slump and tallied two RBI’s in the 5th. We look forward to facing Achiever Christian next week.
Flag Football The Tigers suffered their first losses last week. On Tuesday, the team went down 40-18 at the hands of Los Gatos Christian, and on Thursday, the boys were blanked 33-0 by a tough Legacy Christian squad. Our young players are learning the system and making better decisions each game. Coach Webb says, “Knowing all the boys better, we are designing specific plays that will work to our players’ strengths. As the season goes on, we know we will improve, and we can’t wait to play these teams again.”
Cross Country The Cross Country Tigers had their first meet last Tuesday at Montgomery Hill in San Jose. Dusty, hilly conditions marked the 9-school race, but despite the challenges, Dylan took 4th place out of 30 boys in his heat. Molly finished her race along the 2-mile course in just 18 minutes! Coach Reeves is pleased with the results and the continuous improvement out of our runners. Our runners get to tackle the same course again tomorrow in another meet at Montgomery Hill. If you’re in the area, come cheer them on!
