Tiger Stripes Reflections on Who We Are by: Bart Den Boer Love…Learn…Serve A LOVE for God • School, home, and church partner together at SJCS to encourage and train students to love the Lord in all aspects of their lives: heart, soul, strength, and mind. A desire to LEARN • SJCS provides exceptional academics to help students reach their full potential. Students use discernment and Biblical perspective to examine Truth in all subjects and develop a lifelong love of learning. A commitment to SERVE • Our students use their learning and talents for a purpose: to engage and transform the world for Jesus Christ. SJCS strives to advance the kingdom of God through service. Over the next several weeks, I will encourage all of us to tell the SJCS story using the simple tag line of Love…Learn…Serve. For now, here is an overview.

Teacher Tales!

Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of SJCS.

If you were on campus at the start of lunchtime last week, you would have seen pairs of 2nd graders in every classroom. These students were living out this month’s theme of “Love Lives in Community” by leading each class in prayer. 2nd graders taught the other students (even 8th graders!) a method of prayer called The Five Fingers Prayer. Each finger represents a group of people to pray for: Family, Teachers and Healers, Leaders, Sick and Poor, Community or Self. The 2nd graders all prepared their prayers in advance, then went to each classroom and led the whole community in prayer. It was a fantastic example of Love Does!

Tiger Tracks Sports this week Girls Basketball:

Boys Basketball:

The Lady Tigers finished off the season by taking 4th place overall in the BACSAL League Tournament. On Thursday, the Tigers defeated Cornerstone Christian by a score of 35-15. Led by the Kooiman sisters, with 8 points each, the Tigers got off to a strong start and never looked back. Pushing the ball up the court and playing good transition basketball helped the girls to a well deserved playoff victory.

The boys basketball team had another successful season accomplishing personal and team goals. The Tigers made it to the playoffs last week and came from behind and kept the game close at the end of the second quarter. Tabernacle had a deep bench and overpowered the Tigers in the second half ending the season.

In their first game on Saturday the Tigers fell to a powerful North Creek team. Milan led the Tigers with 8 points and excellent defense. Kathryn G. chipped in 4 points and played solid defense against North Creek’s talented Center. In the second game the Tigers battled their hearts out and lost a close game to San Ramon Valley Christian Academy by a score of 27-25. Using pressure defense and timely shooting by Elizabeth K. the Tigers managed to erase a 8 point deficit with a little more than two minutes left in the game. A chance to send the game into overtime in the final second fell just short. The effort and attitude of our girls had most of those fans in attendance rooting for them to get the victory. The Lady Tigers had a unbelievable season! Before entering the BACSAL League Tournament they were undefeated and won the South Division. Congratulations on one of the best seasons in SJCS history! Girls Basketball This week: Wednesday: Team Party 3:30-5:30 Pizza Factory Friday: Basketball Showdown 5-7

Coach Fung (aka Dr. J) is very proud of the team and their love and respect for one another. Thanks to the 8th graders, Joe, Ryan, Dylan, Calvin, Josh and Ben for providing wonderful leadership during the practices and games and were great role models to the younger players throughout the season. Congratulations on a great season boys! Boys Basketball This week: Friday- Basketball Showdown 5-7
