Love the Lord Your God

Attendance Hotline

by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson

If your student is not coming to school, please call (408)371-4815 before 9am to report the absence.

In Deuteronomy 6, we are told to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul and strength. Many of us have heard that verse- and are now humming a tune!- many times. The chapter goes on to say in the next few verses to keep these commands on our hearts, impress them on our children all the time and even write them on our gates and doorframes. (Deut. 6:4-9) I don’t think that God means to literally write them, but to LIVE those commands in such a way that people know that you love the Lord. That is LIVING INSIDE OUT. This reminds us that we need to live our lives to please God in front of all the people we come in contact with each day. That, in the busyness of life, is not always easy. We feel stress, pressure, conflict. That is the beauty of being partnered with SJCS-it is our goal to support families, with God’s grace and strength, to raise up children who live out Jesus. That common goal of reflecting the relationship that Jesus has with us, His children, begins at home and continues here at school. We are committed to glorify God in all we do as we serve our students.

Parking Lot News We are grateful that the City of Campbell lined our parking lot. However, they mislabeled the lanes and they misspelled a word, a few times. We are working on getting that fixed. Since you are all driving SLOWLY in the parking lot, we knew that you would notice.

Recycling There are a couple of reasons why all of us at SJCS should recycle. 1. It is the right thing to do. We, as Christians must do everything that we can to restore God’s creation to the situation where God looked at his creation and said “It is good.” We must take care of God’s world. Plastic in particular has contributed to worldwide pollution. 2.There is money to be gotten from aluminum cans, and all plastic and glass beverage containers. Last year, the 6th grade used money from recycling to pay for part of the expenses for their 3-day Watershed trip. We ask that you to save glass and plastic beverage bottles and aluminum cans. These containers should indicate “CRV” or “CA cash refund.” Do not include other plastic or glass bottles or tin cans. Please empty them, rinse them if possible and put them in a plastic bag, and bring them to your child’s homeroom or drop them off at the fenced area behind the trash dumpsters.

Tiger Tracks Special Section of the Tiger Tracks for our Preschool “Tiger Cubs” When to start potty training: It helps to remember that you can't force your child to use a potty. If they're not ready, you won't be able to make them use it. In time they will want to use it – your child won't want to go to school in diapers any more than you would want them to. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is to encourage the behaviour you want. Most parents start thinking about potty training when their child is around 18 to 24 months old, but there's no perfect time. Do it over a period of time when there are no great disruptions or changes to your child's or your family's routine. There are a number of signs that your child is starting to develop bladder control: • They know when they've got a wet or dirty diaper. •

They get to know when they're passing urine and may tell you they're doing it.

The gap between wetting is at least an hour (if it's less, potty training may fail and at the very least will be extremely hard work for you).

They know when they need to urinate and may say so in advance.

Potty training is usually fastest if your child is at the last stage before you start the training. If you start earlier, be prepared for a lot of accidents as your child learns.

Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

Inside Out by Arlet Veurink What comes to mind when you hear those two words? Likely it is the Disney Pixar movie. Maybe it is the song by Hillsong. Maybe it is that reminder to check your shirt before leaving the house. My prayer for all of you is that by the end of this school year, new thoughts will come to mind. Words like obedience, honesty, grace, and love. Actions like grateful attitudes, deep meaningful relationships, and giving of self. And overall, I pray that the Holy Spirit works in all of us to create a new heart; a new life. A life that doesn’t live solely for possessions, status or success, but a life that lives for making a difference, for glorifying God, and for building His Kingdom here on earth. I encourage you to checkout the classrooms, discuss the monthly topics with your child, and observe the school culture as the year progresses to see how we are living out the SJCS theme at school, home, church, and community In the 1st-3rd grade Learning Center you will find a heart made out of large puzzle pieces (obedience, honesty, grace, etc.) and a person made out of puzzle pieces (our actions, words, etc), and little foot prints (going out and building God’s kingdom). This visual reminder is not just for my students, but is a daily reminder for me to live this out. What will you do at home to live out the Inside-Out theme? What visual could you display at home? What discussions could you have around the dinner table? Inside Out isn’t about a movie or a song or shirt. It’s about glorifying God and living out the new creation we have been given through the sacrifice of His one and only Son, Jesus. “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” ~Galatians 2:20
