WAT NEWS My first Walk-a-Thon Bart Den Boer
Photo’s?
People of all ages with purple shirts…. everywhere! Each shirt, no matter what size, has the same writing and logo. Obviously, those with the purple shirts feel a bond with each other but seem equally welcoming of those with yellow, red, blue, or green shirts.
If you were one of those shutter bugs at the WAT taking pictures of all the happenings, please make those pictures available to the school. We would love a CD, Flashdrive or Dropbox access. Any questions please contact the school office.

“Have you been in the Hamster Balls yet?” “The what? “ “Over there, those big transparent balls with kids inside of them floating in the water…right next to the Bouncy Tent!” Walking through the maze of carnival games, some home-made of cardboard by SJCS students, one arrives at the inflatable pool where a long line of patrons wait their turn.

“Hey, Skinny!” I yell in the direction of the school principal. His gaze answers my call. (Have you noticed how much weight he’s lost! He’s almost at his goal.) Curt and I stand on the blacktop in the warming morning sun and solve all of the issues facing SJCS. John and Susan are cheering the walkers on the course while parents and grandparents relax in the cooling shade of the tall trees next to the softball diamond. Alex continues to brag up his Kansas City Royals.

Cookies, doughnuts, drinks…. and the taco truck, which is selling all manner of authentic Cal-Mex. On this hot day the line at the drink stand stretches long, but no one seems to mind. Sitting at the picnic table enjoying my Alhambre Hawaiiono, a cupful of glacial-melt temperature liquid greets the back of my purple T-shirt; it’s only Frankie treating me to my own mini-Ice Bucket Challenge experience.

Happy Birthday to you…… Happy Birthday to you…… Happy Birthday dear Beverly….. Just one of several “Happy Birthdays” sung by the crowd on this October Saturday.

Here we call this Walk-A-Thon Saturday. Yes, (importantly) we raised some funds. But it felt more like an old-fashioned family picnic!
