As Japan's premier ski region, the Hakuba Valley offers more terrain, vertical rise and advanced ski slopes than anywhere in Japan. Having hosted the 1998 Winter Olympic Games and numerous FIS World Cup events, the Hakuba Valley has a well established international reputation as a world-class ski destination. From one end of the valley to the other and with 10 resorts accessing over 130 resort runs as well as providing access to incredible off-piste terrain of the Japan Alps, Hakuba's reputation as a serious skiers and snowboarders’ destination is well balanced across all levels. Located at the southernmost end of the Hakuba Valley, Kashimayari commands picturesque views of the Alps and has a network of beginners and intermediates courses, challenging advanced courses and great night skiing.

Sanosaka has a variety of courses to suit everyone. Popular with freestylers with two big air kickers, Terrain Park and a famous mogul run. The resort is great for beginners, intermediates & has beautiful views down to Lake Aokiko.

Goryu is connected with Hakuba 47 & Iimori and offers some of the best terrain in the valley, wide open beginner’s and intermediate runs and some challenging steeps. Most popular night skiing with extensive base facilities.

An awesome ski resort connected to Goryu & Iimori. Some very long cruising intermediate pistes coupled with some interesting treed powder courses. Northerly facing 47 ensures a long season with top to base skiing until May.

Located in Omachi city and part of the Hakuba Valley resorts, Jiigatake is a quiet family orientated ski area, that is great for beginners and young families with wide open slopes. Very rarely crowded and with good views of the surrounding Alps.

The Jewel of the Hakuba Valley & the most famous resort in Japan. Having hosted the Nagano Winter Olympics, with vertical at 1,071m, huge variety of terrain with 4 different base areas and phenomenal backcountry opportunities.

Ski all the four points of a compass, a variety of open to tree lined courses radiate down from the summit to all sides. This is an intermediate skiers dream. The summit boasts some of the best views in the entire valley.

Tsugaike is a big resort well suited to all levels with long cruising uninterrupted skiing. Encompassing some very good on and off piste powder skiing. Situated within the Alps National Park the environment is pristine.

Norikura is Cortina’s neighbour, located at the northern end of the Hakuba valley. Known for awesome snowfalls and with lesser crowds. Norikura is well suited for intermediates, freestylers and families and is a definite hidden gem!

Cortina looks small, but looks are deceiving! Cortina is a powder mecca, boasting huge snowfalls, epic tree skiing, vast beginner’s areas and some very steep treed and piste runs. Large resort hotel at the base with great facilities.

Happo-one is the centerpiece of the Hakuba Valley, and an absolute skier’s dream. With a lifted vertical of 1071m, Happo-one boasts the largest number of ski runs and lifts in the Hakuba Valley. Set high amongst the spectacular Northern Japan Alps, Happo-one spreads out along the ridge leading down from Mt. Karamatsu 2696m. Happo-one has it all – immaculate groomed and natural trail runs, beginner slopes, moguls and free riding bowls with great powder zones and magnificent views of all the surrounding mountains as far as the eye can see. Happo has 4 main base areas – Nakiyama, Gondola, Kokusai and Sakka – each providing access to the higher regions of the mountain and into the pristine snow and powder areas for which it is so well known.

ACTIVITIES Adventure Park Sakka - Family fun with magic carpet, toboggan zones, strider ski bikes, snow play safety land and trampolines. Happo’s day nursery is located in the Sakka Snow Plaza. Open daily from mid-winter until early spring. Ski & Snowboard Schools - Happo-one Ski School & Evergreen International Ski School provides private & group lessons for all ages to take your skills to the next level. Other Activities - Various race competitions including the famous local race Happo-one Riesen Slalom held every year in the first week of March, snowshoe tours, events, the exciting Happo-one Fire Festival, Freeride World Tour Hakuba Japan Competition are held in winter & spring. In early December and from March around spring time, we have two additional snow play locations on the mountain at Usagidaira.

ONSEN Hakuba Happo Onsen is famous in Japan with the country’s highest alkalinity levels of pH11.5. The mineral rich waters leave bathers with incredibly smooth skin and a refreshed mind & soul! Happo-no-yu - Indoor & outdoor onsen. Located in the heart of Happo village. Sato-no-yu - An indoor onsen located in the center of the village. Mimizuku-no-yu - Popular Indoor and Outdoor Onsen. 5 mins drive from Happo town center. Obinata-no-yu - Guests can reserve our private onsen during the winter from the end of December until the end of February. Located at a secluded spot at the base of the mountains, Obinata is an outdoor thermal onsen.

Hakuba offers an extensive range of accommodation from budget pensions, cabins and lodges through to luxury 5 star hotels, apartments, townhouses, private chalets and houses.

Hakuba has a plethora of rich natural spring water and there is no better way to relax and rejuvenate after a hard days skiing than to soothe your body in one of the many natural hot springs in the village. To get the most out of your onsen experience there are a couple of rules which need to be followed. 1. The bath is never used for washing, only soaking. Showering & washing are done before entering the bath. 2. Hotsprings are enjoyed naked & swim suits are not allowed inside the bath. 3. After soaking for a while get out of the bath and wash yourself again & then re-enter the bath. 4. After finishing soaking, let your body absorb the natural minerals for a few minutes before toweling yourself down to dry.

DAILY TOURS THROUGHOUT THE WINTER The world famous Jigokudani Wild Snow Monkey Park is home to about 200 wild monkeys who spend their days soaking in the natural hot springs, keeping warm from the harsh winter. The park was opened in 1964 and is considered to be the only place in the world to see snow monkeys bathing in the wild. The hike to the hot springs takes approx.30 minutes each way.

TRAIN AND BUS BOARDING INFORMATION - TO NAGANO Trains to Tokyo Station for the Hokuriku Shinkansen From Haneda Airport Board the Tokyo Monorail at Haneda Airport Terminal 1,2 or 3 with departures every 4mins. All seats are non-reserved and JR passes can be used. Upon arrival at Hamamatsucho Station take escalators down to 2F and transfer to the JR Yamanote Line bound for Tokyo Station. Upon arrival at Tokyo Station follow green signs for the Hokuriku Shinkansen. From Narita Airport Board the Narita Express at Narita Airport Terminal 1 or 2 with departures every 30mins. Arrival at Nagano Station Upon arrival at Nagano Station, take the escalator up, passengers travelling to Hakuba exit to the left at the main Shinkansen ticket gates. Upon exiting the gates turn left to the Nagano Station East (Higashi) Exit and take the escalator or lifts down to the bus stops for Hakuba located below. Buses to Hakuba from Nagano Station to Hakuba are run by Alpico Bus.

LUGGAGE INFORMATION – Delivery Services, Travelling with Luggage & Storage Luggage Couriers - Japan has a well-developed courier service, luggage including skis and snowboards can be delivered to / from airports to any destination within Japan. Luggage couriers are easily located within the airport terminals. Luggage sent from Narita or Haneda airport arrives the following day and the service is inexpensive and reliable. Luggage sent from the ski resorts to either Narita or Haneda airports requires luggage to be sent two days before departure. The most popular courier company is called Takkyubin Kuro Neko or "Black Cat", look out for their logo. Highly Recommended. Luggage Storage - All international airports in Japan have luggage storage services. Lockers and storage services for oversize suitcases and ski bags are both available at Nagano and Tokyo Station as well as various other major train stations in Japan. Travelling with Luggage - Express and bullet trains in Japan have limited luggage space with overhead storage and a small luggage compartment at either end of the carriage
