2021 Soccer Season - A Huge Success!
The St. John’s Northwestern Academies Lancers soccer team had a tremendous season!
Great words to hear, but it did not come easy. To help the players and coaches, the soccer program (which co-ops with Chesterton Academy of Milwaukee) has three standards that everyone holds each other to: Team, Commitment, and Communication. The words sound simple enough; however, when there is about a 90% turnover rate from the previous year, these words can prove difficult. Keeping the focus on the standards, we approached every game with confidence leading to an overall record of 14-2-1 and a 5-1 record in conference (half game out of first place). Because of the success of the regular season, we received the Number 1 seed in Sectional 3 for the division 4 WIAA state tournament. This ranking is decided by the coaches of the sectional. The number 1 seed gave us the home field advantage, and that proved to be a surprising boost. The home crowds at SJN were the largest and loudest in a long time. The student body was very well represented, and this had a large impact on the outcome of the games. The team was able to ride the momentum, winning our first regional title in over ten years and winning the school’s first-ever Soccer WIAA Sectional title with a visit to the state semifinal game. Unfortunately, we came up a little short, losing to the eventual state champions, but we fought in the last game like we did all year. We never took anything for granted, and we are very thankful for our opportunities and our successes. The varsity team started two seniors, eight juniors, and a freshman, so the future looks bright!

Raider Up!
St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy’s JROTC Raider team had a great season this year that included two overall first place wins!
Led by head coach SFC Mike Trione and assistant coach SSG Zachary Spreitzer, the Raider season began with Raider School on August 16, 2021. Designed to challenge the mind and body as well as develop team building, a total of 62 participants arrived for Raider School to stretch their physical, emotional, and mental limits by operating outside their normal comfort zone. Participants were expected to accomplish 3K, 5K, 6K, 8K, and 10K ruck marches/runs, complete a 5-mile run for time, conduct the obstacle course individually as well as in teams, and many other activities. They also built confidence during rappel tower training. Above all, they learned how to work as a team. By the end of the 8-day school, 58 participants graduated and earned the Raiders tab.
At the beginning of the academic year, students who chose Raiders as their fall sport began regular after-school practices. They repeatedly conducted rope bridging, runs, and all other events that they would encounter at an actual Raider competition, including tire flips, litter carries, log carries, and canoe carries. The “best of the best” were selected by SFC Trione to be on the Raider Challenge Team to compete in a total of three meets followed by the JROTC Raider National Championships in Molena, Georgia. They finished FIRST overall in two of the meets and third in the other, bringing home a number of trophies. SFC Trione said, “This season we had many first-time Raider Challenge members who gained a great deal of experience and knowledge from the veteran Raiders. They put in many hours of preparation and represented the school extremely well.” Congratulations on a great season, Raiders!
Raider School is designed to give young men and women in grades 7-12 the opportunity to expand their knowledge, self-confidence, and develop themselves both individually and as a member of a team. Come discover what you can achieve at Raider School (August 6-14, 2022)! www.sjnacademies.org/summer
