Beginner Wheelchair Basketball

Nothin' but net! Come out and shoot some hoops with your friends while you learn the exciting sport of wheelchair basketball. You will learn new techniques, skills, and practice drills. All ability levels welcome No sports chair, no problem; we have extra sports chairs available to use during program Tournament opportunities are available for big gamers. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio, and independent with personal care needs.

Power Soccer

Do you use a power wheelchair? Join one of the three classes with the San Jose teams in the electrifying and growing sport of power soccer! Whether you just want to learn the sport or aspire to compete in future tournaments, this is the program for you. Participants will learn power soccer techniques, develop skills, practice drills, and prepare for competition Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care.

This class is designed for power wheelchair users.

Advanced Wheelchair Basketball

This is a Wheelchair Basketball practice for advanced players who are competing at a high level. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care

Simply Cooking

This introductory course for individuals with disabilities (ages 16+) and it covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners.

Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care

Group Arts Class

This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities. Come check out the Bascom Community Center and relax with some arts and crafts. This program is designed to improve fine motor skills, creativity and social skills. You will be guided through art projects and specialty crafts

Organization's staff must accompany clients in a 4 to 1 ratio. This class is not designed for individuals without staff/attendant.

LINE DANCING - BEGINNER

Great for a person with two left feet and who needs the extra TLC! This is an introductory class appropriate for anyone who has never line danced before Come find out how much fun your two feet will learn! The lessons are easy and a great experience. Partners are not required and no prior experience necessary. Dance shoes work the best and be sure to bring a water bottle!

LINE DANCING - ADVANCED

Put on your dancing shoes and boots and join us for a great dancing experience! Knowledge of basic line dancing steps and the ability to learn complex steps required. This social environment allows you to meet others and improve your line dancing skills. Don't forget to bring your water bottle, you might need it for this advanced class!

Line Dance Social

2nd and 4th Wednesday of the Month

Line Dancing Socials are back at Cypress with Joyce & Mike Shannon. Great way to meet new people, mingle and have fun! Stop by every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month with your dancing shoes Socials will be $5 a dance with a membership, must pay the $20 in advance to attend dances (the $20 fee breaks down to just $5 a dance). Please sign up for a membership BEFORE signing up for the dances. Memberships are FREE all of 2023, everyone gets a discount when you sign up for a membership! Non-members pay additional costs for the dances.

Every Tuesday we have live music or DJ music for Ballroom Dancing. Live music days are $4.00 for members/$6.00 Non-members. DJ music days are $1.00 for members/$3 for Non-members

Painting Group

This is a drop in program where artists of every level will have the opportunity to paint in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. No instruction will be provided, but you will get advice and encouragement from the group to help you grow as an artist Bring your own supplies and join us!

Stitches From The Heart

4th Wednesday of Each Month

This group knits, crochets, and quilts baby items for the needy and sends them to hospitals across the country They meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 10 A M - 12 P M in Room 5

Scholarships Available

The City of San Jose offers activity scholarships for children, seniors, and adults with disabilities who qualify Scholarships will cover 50-70% of the class cost Fill out the scholarship form and bring the necessary documents to any City of San Jose community center

CHAIR EXERCISE #1

Get Fit! If you have not exercised in a while, this is the perfect class for you. The class is designed for individuals who need a gentler form of chair exercise, along with strength building and balance exercise. Music provides the opportunity for increased movement and enhanced relaxation exercises. One day we will use bands and the other weights.

Tai Chi

This is a graceful exercise using slow circular movements and deep breathing. Tai Chi is great in helping the body improve strength and balance while relieving stress

ZUMBA GOLD + TONING #1

"Ditch the work out-Join the party!" Dance, socialize, and burn lots of calories with this fun modified Zumba option for active older adults. Zumba Gold recreates all the same Zumba moves you know and love with lower intensity and lower impact while still focusing on balance, range of motion, and coordination The last portion of the class will consist of toning Feel free to bring any of these items for the toning portion of the class: 2 lb. dumb bells (2), water bottles (2), canned foods (2). Don't forget to bring your water!
