Nina Chuang for A.S. President
Hey Spartans! My name is Nina Chuang (she/her/hers) and I am humbly announcing my candidacy to be your next Associated Students President. I am currently serving as your A.S. Vice President and previously served as your Director of SRA. For the past two years, we have been reminded of what helped us in our survival through the toughest times: prioritizing the health and safety of our families and friends, advocating for ourselves and our communities, and the resiliency of our people. It’s time to revitalize our voice as a student body to empower one another to advocate for our communities, for accessibility, and for ourselves. My platform is more than a vision. It’s a hope for the future of San Jose State - a commitment to the vigorous soul of the student body and focusing on community, wellness, and representation. It could be simple as creating more accessible and transparent opportunities for Spartans to thrive or comprehensive like addressing systemic racism on our campus and advocating for resources for mental health and Title IX. Because of you, I was able to work with communities to partner on helping advocate for the student body- ranging from events, resources, and legislation. From the rich history, diverse community, to the legacy of change-makers on our campus, you inspire me to strive for new beginnings and continual advocacy- so that even in the toughest moments, our student body sustains support and love together. Learn more about me and my platform at tinyurl.com/ninaforpres.

Sharanya Kumar for A.S. President
Hi Spartans! My name is Sharanya Kumar, and I am so excited to be running to be your President this year! I am a Political Science Major with a minor in Economics and Computer Science. Being a part of three different courses of study, I understand the academic needs of my fellow Spartans. Throughout my time here at SJSU, I’ve been an executive of Her Campus and an advocate for women’s rights on and off campus. I also began my term as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on our Panhellenic Council, allowing me to continue to advocate for equity and equality throughout the Greek life community. This year, I’ve had the pleasure of serving as your Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities. In this position, I’ve learned to be a student advocate and how to make our voices heard. I have championed policies to aid in our academic journey; as well as collaborated with our University Police Department to maintain and improve our safety and comfortability on campus. If elected, I will ensure student rights are protected, while guaranteeing convenience and fairness — both in and out of the classroom. As we transition back to in-person learning, I promise to continue vouching for increased access to mental health resources. I want to represent the concerns and questions we have as a post-pandemic student body. I intend to build our campus back up from the effects of the pandemic, and I hope to protect our rights as students and promote equality. Thank you! Warm regards, Sharanya Kumar

Ikaika Rapanot for A.S. Vice President
Hello Fellow Spartans! My name is Kai Rapanot (He/Him/His), I am a third-year majoring in Philosophy, and it is my absolute honor to announce my candidacy to become your next Associated Students Vice President and Chairman of the Board. First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family, friends, and co-workers both past and present for their hand in shaping me into the person I am today. I know that I wouldn’t have been able to reach the heights that I did without their support and encouragement. I have been blessed with opportunities. Through the course of three years here, my resume reads: Former CVC President, Former RHA President, Current RA for CVB, and Current Director of Co-Curricular Affairs for AS. I am a driven and diligent individual that strives to put in the hard work to earn the right to bear these titles. If elected, I will strive to connect the Board of Directors together. So that in a unified movement, we as the newly minted Board of Directors can do our job of representing the community to the best of our ability. I bear my heart and soul to the University with the hopes that my experience, my character and my work ethic will undoubtedly help make an impact in the lives of this university. I have grand dreams for this University, I merely hope that you will allow me to see them come to fruition. In Community, Ikaika “Kai” Rapanot

What’s Good Spartans! My name is Gunraj Singh (pronouns: he/him/his), a Second-Year majoring in Software Engineering at San Jose State University. I am honored and humbled to announce my candidacy, to represent you as your next Associated Students Vice President. Being a part of such culturally and ethnically diverse communities has truly been a privilege, that has enabled me to value the power of inclusive advocacy, student empowerment, systemic transparency, and equal opportunity, now more than ever. My ability to enlist priorities by managing time both academically and socially, while handling my designated responsibilities is one which I am grateful and extremely proud of. Throughout these past two years, the amount of resilience and passion that our campus community has instilled in me is beyond compare. Antonio Maldonaldo for A.S. Controller
My name is Antonio Maldonado and I am a Junior Finance Major here at SJSU. I had my first taste of business when I was around 11 years old in the Oakland flea market. The pace here is fast and the people are competitive so the challenge was standing out amongst hundreds of vendors. This is where I first internalized the arts of negotiation, communication, and finances in their rawest forms. Today I am running for the Controller position of A.S to bring my skills to the position and serve the students of SJSU. With my experience as a previous board director, I have familiarized myself with the financial documents of A.S so that I can better serve our community of Spartans. In addition to this, I am also the President of my Fraternity which has prepared me to be a strong leader. With these skills under my belt and the attitude I carry, nothing will get in the way of my goals. In this position, I plan on efficiently managing budgets concerning student A.S fees and exposing students to the realms of investing so that our spartans can have a bright financial future.

Dhyeykumar Nikalwala for A.S. Director of Business Affairs
Born and brought up in a fast-growing city of Surat, I was always motivated and inspired by my family to progress towards new possibilities. This led me to my first technical endeavour in cyber security at the age of thirteen; subsequently, Computer Engineering became a natural subject for my career. While in my undergraduate years, I realised that a combination of business and technology can give me the edge to establish a business platform where other business firms can get solutions to their issues. Enabling me to establish a tech startup (TheHomeSolutions) with my friends. The startup directed me to start my career in a place renowned for Ideas and Creation (Silicon Valley). Hence, I opted for Engineering Management as my major for higher studies at SJSU. Until now, I have seen ample opportunities and resources that are available at SJSU. I want to make use of these resources and help create something valuable for our student community. My vision of betterment led me to run for the Director of Business Affairs. Additionally, I managed multiple events, customers, and colleagues, so I know that this position needs someone like me who has some experience in handling customer affairs and provide exceptional customer service. Finally, I would like to quote: Unity starts with you and if not you than who?

Ariana Lacson for A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs
Hi Spartans! My name is Ariana Lacson and I’m thrilled to announce that I’m running for Director of Co-Curricular Affairs! I am a Biomedical Engineering student and the Co-Director of Philanthropy for my sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. With the new adjustment period from hybrid and online classes to fully in-person, I can understand how finding the motivation to stay involved in the Spartan community is intimidating and exhausting. As a former commuter, I struggled creating genuine bonds and connections especially since SJSU is predominantly a commuter school. After joining Alpha Omicron Pi, several A.S. committees, and Biomedical Engineering Society, I found myself immersed in a variety of different communities that brought out the best in me. I found sisters who would be my companions for the rest of my life, others who shared the same beliefs and passions as me, and those who shared the same lifelong goals as I did. If elected, I plan to increase the amount of involvement in Student Organizations and other departments, such as sports, through a higher implementation of outreach and promotional events as well as advocate for increased funding for Student Organizations. I hope to create a more unified, intimate, and involved community by encouraging participation within the community. Even if we all live separate lives, in our hearts we will always be Spartans.

Joshua Reyes for A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs
Hi Spartans! My name is Joshua Reyes and I am honored to announce my candidacy to serve as your A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs for the 2022-2023 academic year. I’m currently a 3rd year-student pursuing a degree in Advertising on the MarComm track with a minor in Public Relations. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. It was a hard transition for me moving away from home. But it was also a great opportunity for me to start learning how to become a young adult. I believe that, in order to have growth, you must go through change. Change can mean many things, for example joining a new organization, adjusting to different circumstances, &/or just trying different things. I believed that there was more to SJSU than just the school itself. So I decided to venture out & try new things. During my 1st year of college I’ve had the privilege to grow as an individual from many different organizations, SJSU Marketing Association, Akbayan, and Associated Students committees. These organizations have welcomed me with such open arms & I am glad I get to call SJSU a home away from home now. SJSU has impacted my life for the better and my drive is to try and give back. I hope to count on your vote and be elected for the upcoming year so that I can continue to enhance your student experience. Please feel free to reach out to me if y’all have any questions. Go Spartans!

Dillon Gadoury for A.S. Director of Communications
Hello fellow Spartans! My name is Dillon Gadoury and I am humbled to announce my candidacy as your Director of Communications. As a third-year Business Marketing major, I have had the pleasure of seeing Associated Students represent SJSU’s students throughout an in-person, virtual, and hybrid year. It is essential that our campus can interact and communicate effectively between its students and the San José community; I hope to be that bridge of communication highlighting the voices of our diverse student body. My experiences at SJSU have allowed me to create depth in my perspective and attitude into my willingness to grow. As an orientation leader, VP of Marketing & Outreach for the Residence Hall Association, resident advisor, and leader in multiple student-led organizations, I have had the privilege ofworking with peers coming from all walks of life. These experiences have allowed me to advocate and increase awareness for the Spartan community at large. Luis Aquino for A.S. Director of Intercultural Affairs
Hello Spartans! My name is Luis Aquino (pronouns: He/Him/Él), and I am a third-year Political Science and Philosophy double-major. I am delighted to announce my candidacy to serve as your Director of Intercultural Affairs. I am Zapotec, Indigenous to Oaxaca, MX. I was born and raised in Inglewood, CA, and I am a first-generation student. Identity is an essential factor to me as it has granted me my cultural wealth and contributed to my perception of the world. As a student research assistant for the Institute for Emancipatory Education (IEE), I have been given the opportunity to further explore the experiences of marginalized communities in education. I have been encouraged to question the systems in place that oppress BIPOC communities. As a Garden fellow, I was given the opportunity to foster community, learn about environmental and social movements, and the individuals at the forefront of fighting for our communities. As an ISA for the Philosophy Department, I was allowed to work with professors and students and develop my interpersonal skills. It is through these positions that I have been able to advocate for students in our community. Racial disparities and financial struggles, amongst many others, are significant barriers in our campus community. Udayveer Grewal for A.S. Director of Intercultural Affairs
Hey, Spartans! My name is Udayveer Singh Grewal and I am a freshman at SJSU. I am very excited to be running for the position of A.S Director of Intercultural Affairs this year. As the population of international students continues to grow at SJSU, it shows how our campus is seen as a place where students from all around the world feel welcomed and safe. My goal as the director of Intercultural Affairs would be to continue maintaining this image of our campus and take it a step forward. I plan to do this by making sure that each international student is aware of all the resources the campus has to offer, be it scholarships, help with internships, getting a job on campus etc. I also plan to take suggestions from international students so that they can broaden my perspective of what other challenges they may face. I will then take these suggestions and present it to the higher authorities for its further implementation. Another goal that I will look to achieve is to provide necessary resources to all the ethical and cultural organizations. This will allow them to run their organization properly and also inspire other cultures who don’t have an organization to build one for themselves. I ultimately hope to form an inclusive campus which respects the cultural diversity of its students. This will not only help educate other students of the campus but also allow a safe environment for the students.

Dominic Treseler for A.S. Director of Legislative Affairs
Hello Spartans. My name is Dominic Treseler, I am a second-year political science major, and I am running to be your AS Director of legislative affairs. I am seeking this position because I want to make sure our interests as students are properly represented at every level of government. As Director of legislative affairs, I will pursue legislation that not only benefits all students seeking post-secondary education but also bills surrounding issues I know are important to students at our university like affordable housing and transportation. I believe I am qualified to take on this role for several reasons. The first of which is that I currently serve in the Lobby corps, the committee that the Director of Legislative affairs organizes and runs, so I am already aware of many of the obligations and responsibilities of the position. The other reason I believe I am uniquely qualified for this position is that I have had the opportunity to work and meet several San Jose representatives. One significant occasion was when I worked as a field representative for Ash Kalra, the CA assembly member who represents San Jose State. It’s great I have an existing relationship with these local politicians because it means I’ll have an easier time getting in contact with them when trying to lobby on behalf of the student body.
25
Michael Chadwick for A.S. Director of Student Resource Affairs
Hi! My name is Michael Chadwick (he/him), and I am your new Director of Student Resource Affairs. I am a multi-cultural, commuter student-athlete from Union City, CA here at SJSU. I am first a scholar, secondly a runner for the Track and Cross Country team, thirdly I am a friend and another scooter kid around campus. I have a natural feel for leadership, and ambition to get involved because I believe that I possess beneficial skills to display in the school’s government. This opportunity to serve SJSU as a functioning part of the student government is exciting. My first experience as a leader was at James Logan high school’s (ESSJ) Ethnic Studies and Social Justice Academy (which I was part of the first graduating class of). Through the academy, I became a leader within my community and grew a passion to help society on the local level with the best of my efforts. In addition to ESSJ, I was a three-sport student-athlete, a youth leader at my church, and an annual Special Olympics facilitator. Balancing my life as a scholar-athlete has taken healthy habits, willingness, energy, and a dedication to time management to be in the position I am in. My main goal as a candidate for this position is to be a valuable member of the student government, gain college leadership experience, and most importantly, be resourceful to the student body.
