Such teams are steadily rising in numbers as agents begin to market as a group and can handoff clients when contingencies and emergencies come up. In a May 2016 article in its RealtorMag publication, the National Association of Realtors discussed the merits of teams and their surging growth. According to anecdotal evidence from agents, real estate teams within agencies started catching on in a big way 15 years ago. The magazine cites estimates of 35,000 and 50,000 real estate teams in the U.S. today, basing the figures on research by Tom Ferry – Your Coach international training company for real estate professionals. Ferry’s company in February surveyed 3,300 industry professionals about their real estate practices and found that 68 percent “had what they defined as a team” and more than half of solo agents planned to build a team in the near future, the author Erica Christoffer wrote. She also pointed to a recent episode of the #TomFerryShow series on YouTube, in which the real estate coach analyzes what he groups into four types of team structures. They include the “illegitimate team,” a group of salespeople working together without back-end support staff; the unhealthy “hero with minions team” involving a single high-producing agent who can’t keep other associates or giving up responsibilities; the “family team,” which Ferry says is historically the largest segment of real estate teams and involves

spouses and generations of family members; and the healthy “team builder” group, in which agents “are brought on to fulfill specific tasks” based on their specialties and abilities. the top-producing teams in my area, just as the concept of real estate teams was taking off. I finally chose a team and have been with them for 12 years,” she says. Carone points out team benefits, such as the group bankrolling the license, marketing expenses, educational courses and business cards. Also, “you don’t have to generate all your own leads,” she says.
