Openplanning.gr is an internet platform experimental tool, designed to aid the shaping of space
The project seeks to create the appropriate links between individual citizens and wider interest groups in order to potentially enhance the intervention of humans to their environment.
This particular dynamic network of collaboration is expected to operate in parallel, but outside the formal administrative structures. The main purpose is to influence the statutory planning system, injecting to it the aspirations and desires of the greatest possible portion of the society.
Conception VS Perception A contemporary approach to spatial planning and design should aim to the integrated conception of space from its users. This means active participation of the contributors in every point of the circular/continuous planning process. Current practices in spatial design refer to the typical approval or institutionalisation of already carried out studies. The critical decisions that affect the shaping of space are made by a small number of specialists. Therefore the end product does not include the pursuits and desires of the individuals. Non-involvement of the citizens to space creation leads to loss of control of their immediate surroundings and ultimately to a handicapped adaptation of space to their needs.

Digital space, as opposed to the physical (finite) space is practically infinite, while is much more accessible and customisable. Therefore there are more possible ways of intervention to the digital world and every individual can contribute to its costomisation. Pursuit of an online platform for spatial planning is the adaptation of digitally-generated dynamics (ideas, collectives, knowledge) to the physical space towards a more collective construction.
Basis In an effort to connect the physical and digital world, we think that the ultimate goal of the use of new technologies in participatory planning is the transition from the habitant-user of space to the citizen-programmer/co-creator.
