The Castlegar Rotary Skatepark was built in 2003. Over the last 15 years 10’s of 1000’s of children, youth and families have visited the park to enjoy the unique features. The skatepark is a hub for people from around the region. Locally it is our “outdoor youth centre.” As the soon as the weather is warm enough it is being cleared by locally to access the facility.
The not for profit Kootenay Family Place has been spearheading the drop in skateboard coaching program called Summer at the Skatepark since 2010. Three coaches are available from 8am to 1 pm Monday to Friday through the months of July and August. Primary funding comes from BC Gaming and Castlegar Recreation Commission. Skateboarding equipment is provided courtesy of Skull Skates and S-One Helmets. CDRC is an integral part of this success. Their staff maintains the park and has been trouble shooting the expansion crack issue which has plagued the park for numerous years. As a celebration of the 15th anniversary of the park we are proposing a clubhouse at the Castlegar Rotary Skatepark. This would replace to temporary structure that has been used for the past 7 years at the skatepark. This would be a hub for those who visit the skatepark. It may be used for special events, birthdays, leadership opportunities through small concession items (pop/juice). It would be a legacy to those who put the effort into the special place.

Updated March 2018: At its meeting on March 15, 2018, the Board of Directors for the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) approved a recommendation from the Castlegar & District Recreation Commission to reduce the amount of borrowing on the Castlegar & District Community Complex Facility Enhancement project to $22,000,000 from $32,370,000.
