RDC Skyscraper
National Resource Defense Council Stone Street in lower Manhattan presents an interesting opportunity for the integration of a sustainable high rise. The site presents a concern for gathering light being surrounded by adjacent high-rise buildings. As an office space for the National Resource Defense Council, a structural/sustainable icon is a suitable development. Programmatically, I decided to create a visual experience vertically thru the structure. Beginning with a gallery space “Contemplation Space” in the basement that visually reaches up thru a central atrium culminating at an interior garden. As the user moves vertically the appearance of a gradual light from unexpected sources becomes present. The skin of the central organic form offered the opportunity to allow the user to control the suns intensity. A system of 3 fritted panels between a double skin can be mechanically operated to slide in any configuration. This system would also work dynamically with the appearance of the skin, changing vertically with the varying times of day/season/ and sun’s intensity.

JIT Greek Village
Lower Level Ground Plan
University Heights, Newark, New Jersey The NJIT Greek Village Project employs an interesting opportunity to redefine the role Greek life plays on campus as well as NJIT within Newark. The orientation and placement of public amenities is vital to curtail the “commuter college” reputation NJIT has endured. This project utilizes the arterial nature of Warren Street and a natural flow of pedestrian traffic to enhance a public presence. At present Greek life is visually alienated from the campus. By creating a visual spectacle for Greek housing the campus can develop a conncection with student social activities while still respecting the Greek desires for individuality.

oastal Preservation Institute
Bayhead, New Jersey
The mission of the Institute is to provide information and education to the public, monitor the conditions of the coastline N and S of Bay Head, conduct environmental study and research, manage dune protection/beach preservation projects, act as a liaison between State and Federal agencies and local coastal communities, and support seasonal activities of the beach patrol. The typical street facade of the Bayhead community creates a barrier to scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean. By splitting and lifting the program, the intention is to breakdown the coastline wall while also creating usuable natural spaces below. Surprisingly a typical Bay Head dwelling does not provide much deck or patio space to enjoy the natural surrounding. The apendages, punctured with inďŹ nite openings, splay towards the ocean to exploit views and act as a virtual bridge to the beach.

hatham Square Arts Center
China Town, Manhattan, New York
Chinatown is one of the more underserved neighborhoods in Manhattan for the arts. A community arts center would provide a forum for the arts as well as computer training, job training, language classes, and other activities. The project investigated how such a space could be inserted into the dense urban fabric of Chinatown in Manhattan. The timeless art of weaving was used to explore ideas of material, surface, and visual perception. Through pattern, iteration, and variation, what became primarily interesting was a “visual weave”, an ephemeral connection to bordering spaces. A visual connection of adjacent spaces, while maintaining a physical boundary enabled these volumes to create a vertical and horizontal “visual weave”. Aesthetically the use of contrasting elements (crisp white volumes & vertical fins) would reiterate the visual perception of weaving volumes from the interior and exterior. The user would traverse from exterior to interior and through the building while maintaining a sense of progression throughout the structure as well as to China Town.
