Over the past four months we have opened our new studio, launched two public art clubs for children and an evening course for adults, and we have continued to serve Alexandra School with weekly lessons and after-school clubs. We hope you all enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all in 2018. K AT E , m I C H E l l E & C H A N T E l l x

JAN 2018: SEWING CluB lAuNCHING
In September, we opened the Alexandra School studio. Thank you to everyone for your donations, encouragement and support this term and thank you to all the children and students for showing up each week with such enthusiasm and creativity.
Alexandra School’s art club students have voted that building a South American inspired Favela from cardboard boxes was their favourite project this term. The process was incredible, with everyone building their own house or building.
We are launching a new Sewing Club for KS2 students in January. In the Tuesday club, students will learn hand and machine sewing, a variety of stitching techniques, about different fabrics and will be introduced to pattern-cutting.

Working with twenty wonderful medical students and staff, we introduced the group to the science of Positive Psychology and practiced some mindful meditation. We then drew in response to specimens and created mixed media collages to celebrate human life, death and identity. Thank you to everyone who came along and took part. We are looking forward to reading the research study results. C O N T A C T u S f O R G R O u P O R A D u lT W O R K S H O P S

SHAPING fASHION: v&A ExHIBITION REvIEW by Ida Berner Ford, Year 4 Student On Tuesday 24 October 2017, I went on a marvellous trip with my art teacher Kate, to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. We went to see the Balenciaga a green evening dress and cape (1961), and I said “Look at that dress, it looks like a vegetable!” I was very inspired by the ‘Envelope Dress’ (1960), which made me think of my own designs and how I could improve them. After I had seen some of the designs, I thought how impractical most of them were and how it would be to wear such things.

The few other dresses I ran into were all astonishing, as in pretty perfect. We saw crazy hats to beautiful dresses. Then we went upstairs to see some fashion inspired by Christobal Balenciaga. It was amazing to see these - especially some of the colours, like the dusty pink one (designed by Res Kawakubo), similar to the colour of my rucksack.
