SURFACE SKIS

As Surface goes into its 6th year of doing “business” in this industry, I have realized that skiers are creatures of habit, and that’s fine. As a matter of fact, I have enjoyed more than ever, watching the same people arrive in Salt Lake City, at the same time, in the same car, loaded to the roof with just enough supplies to get them through another Utah winter. This behavior takes place in ski towns all over the world, year after year and it never gets old to me, and it never will. However, the one thing I noticed this year was how happy all of these people are and it made me appreciate everything we have even more. This sort of happiness comes cheap. Enjoy the simple things in life.

The No Time is our budget friendly park ski. Slight early rise in the tip and tail make it easy to press, butter and lock onto handrails without the catch of a regular cambered ski.

Dawn-Patrol here in the Wasatch is a pretty special thing. Looking down from Mt. Superior onto the town of Alta while all the little ants work into their parking spots for a day of skiing. Knowing that your day will be done before theirs even begins is strangely gratifying. But what is even more gratifying is being completely white roomed at 8:03 AM and still having time to grab a cup of coffee before clocking in at 9:00 AM. The Live Free is fat, with a nice smooth rocker in the tip and slight early rise in the tail and insanely light for a ski of its size. Mount these with a freeride AT binding and have the ultimate backcountry deep pow set up.

Traveling light and fast is a must in the backcountry. Partly because its exhausting to lug heavy equipment and partly because accessing secret stashes first is crucial in this game. The Walk Free is the mountain goat of the Surface line up. Light and fast without sacrificing the width for the way down. Because after all, that’s why we went up right?

SAVE LIFE: This one goes out to those who are up before dawn doing avalanche control work, running routes, plucking us off of rock bands when we make stupid decisions, scraping us off the bottom of park jumps when we come up 15 feet short and so on. We owe a lot to Ski Patrollers and Backcountry Rescue people. With that being said, we produced the Save Life work ski for patrollers, guides, rescue and avalanche forecasters around the world. The Save Life is produced via the Watch Life mold and makes for a fantastic work ski for all conditions. Super lightweight and 100mm underfoot, its perfect for side-stepping, skinning and general everyday workload in the mountains. On top of it all, we are donating 10% of all revenue to WBR (Wasatch Backcountry Rescue) and ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue) to help fund those two non-profit organizations that do so much for our sport and lifestyle.
