Komatsu Autonomous Haul System Gets Its 3 billionth Metric Ton Moved
Mining firms have now carried more than 3 billion metric lots of materials leveraging Komatsu's FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS).
First released in 2008 at CODELCO's Gabriela Mistral (Gaby) copper mine in Chile, AHS combines discard associate Modular Mining Solutions' DISPATCH Fleet Monitoring System. Today's FrontRunner system runs all the time, carrying copper, iron ore, oil sands, and coal at 11 consumer sites across three continents. At the end of June 2020, there were 251 vehicles in operation, with an additional 100 (generally from installing AHS retrofit sets) intended to deploy within FY2020.
"Our mining customers' recurring financial investment in modern technology and devices to transition to self-governing haulage highlights the worth the system supplies," said Toshio Kurokawa, GM of advertising and marketing, mining company department, Komatsu.
"We are gratified to have helped our clients save hundreds of millions of bucks while autonomously relocating one more billion metric tons of essential minerals and driving for absolutely no injury. The FrontRunner system is developed to allow hand-run tools (such as loaders, dozers, graders, and light vehicles) to interact in a self-governing vehicle atmosphere flawlessly.
Komatsu recently presented system functionality to allow manual haul trucks to likewise run with the self-governing cars. To additionally sustain the development of autonomy in mining for its customers, Komatsu is leading initiatives within ISO to develop criteria for interoperability between Komatsu as well as non-Komatsu independent vehicles.
