Hello! It’s one of my favourite things to spot Skinny laMinx prints & products in a fan’s real-life home, which is why I asked my architect friends Jo & Stu if we could borrow their beautiful 60’s home in Cape Town for a day, to shoot our Lookbook in a real home. Come in & see what it looks like to live with Skinny laMinx.

Jo & Stu’s bright yellow front door offsets our cheerful (& super useful) Alexander Sacks in the hallway.

Choosing

colours The Skinny laMinx colour palette is quite distinctive, & pretty extensive too, so to make decisions easier, we’ve grouped our fabric book into colour sets that we think look fab. Take a look at how we put our patterns & colours to use in Jo & Stu’s home, on a sunny day in April.

A warm

4

heart

It makes sense to play it safe with a neutral grey living room sofa, but we wanted to bring warmth & vigour to the heart of the home, so we added an exuberantly-patterned lampshade, a cosy accent chair & a fun pile of patterned sofa cushions.

On sofa, L-R : Roof Garden in cairo | Brancusi Stripe in shell | Woodpile in cocoa | Bowls in persimmon | Oddjects in cocoa | Lampshade - Roof Garden in cairo | ‘Oslo’ single chair - Woodpile in cocoa | Artwork - Paul Edmunds.

7

We started with a neutral base in the living room, & added plenty of warmth, colour & pattern.

Left page : ‘Bjorn’ chair, made to order - Weft in concrete | Brancusi Stripe cushion in shell Right page : Brancusi Stripe cushion in cocoa.

8

Try this! Use colour & pattern bravely but strategically, by putting a super-bold print on a single chair or accent wall.

dinette

The jet set 10

I love it that Jo & Stu call their dining room ‘the dinette’. It’s the perfect name for an informal eating nook, & just the place for an architect’s breakfast of boiled egg & coffee, while morning light streams through the curtains.

Curtains - Roof Garden in miami | cushion - Brancusi Stripe in shell | napkins - Orla in cocoa.

The dinette’s uncluttered lines & minimal decor let us add crazy curtains without risking pattern-induced seizures. 12

T ry this! Create impact in an otherwise spartan room with curtains in an unusual colour combo.

13

Top - bottom : Roof Garden in miami | Orla in shell & cocoa | Pincushion in cocoa | Orla in fog & lemon | Flower Fields in posy pink.

14

Whether patterned or in restful stripes, the colours of the curtains will set the palette for the rest of the room.

A sociable

16

kitchen Cooking can get lonely, so we love the idea of having a comfy (& super stylish) chair or two in the kitchen, making it a companiable space.

Teatowels on line, L-R : Tall Protea | When Everyone Came to Tea | Oddjects | Eep! Pinny apron - Gridly in signal & steel | Cushion - Bowls in lemon slice.

18

T ry this! We used the Block Circle design here, but reckon a kitchen blind in any one of these prints would be a hit.

Top - bottom : Simple Stripe in lemon | Pincushion in wedgewood | Brancusi Stripe in wedgewood | Block Circle in steel | Pebble in pollen | Gridly in signal & steel.

Want company while you cook? A bench or chair with lots of cushions makes the kitchen a comfortable place to hang out.

The 22

midnight oil Architects need a home office, as inspiration can strike at any moment especially late at night. We used the original blue glass detail in Jo & Stu’s 6o’s room divider to come up with a suitably studious palette.

Vintage DUX chair : Woodpile in teal | Cushion : Weft in petrol.

24

top - bottom : Weft in petrol | Woodpile in teal | Aperture in petrol | Breeze in petrol.

The architecture-inspired shapes of the Brise Soleil collection in blues & greys create a perfectly studious mood for a home office.

25

Try this! All work & no play is no fun, so add a pop of colour to lighten the mood.

A place to 26

recharge Ever since baby Roo arrived, Jo & Stu are usually in need of a good night’s sleep, which is why we chose a restful colour palette of greys & sages for their bedroom.

Headboard - Breeze in concrete. Pillows, L-R - Aperture in moonbeam | Simple Stripe in mint & in liquorice | Woodpile in spruce | Brancusi Stripe in sage.

Try this! Upholster a headboard in fabric for an impactful bedroom set.

‘Bjorn’ chair made to order - Weft in concrete | Curtains - Simple Stripe in liquorice.

29

Choose linear patterns in a low-contrast palette to achieve a space that’s visually interesting without being overwhelming.

Where the 30

wild thing

We reckon a giant stack of Skinny laMinx pillows will give little Roo endless fort-building opportunities which is, after all, the first step for all baby architects.

is

Pillows on bed - Breeze in mint | Weft in sunray. Pillows on floor - Sway in mint & lemon | Bowls in lemon slice | Gridly in fog & lemon.

32

Try this! Create washable, easy-to-move kids’ furniture by covering foam cubes in fabric.

Fabric - Breeze in moonbeam | Gridly in lemon & fog | Weft in sunray | Simple Stripe in lemon | Sway in lemon & mint | Brancusi Stripe in sage Kids apron - Sway in lemon & mint | cushion - Gridly in lemon & fog.

34

Sunnydays Across the sunny courtyard is the garden cottage, which is put to multifunctional use as a guest room, a pool room, while also making a great indoor/ outdoor space for entertaining on sunny Cape Town days.

Cushions L-R - Airborne in tarmac | Gridly in glass & mint | Aperture in concrete | Woodpile in spruce. Daybed - Bowls in graphite. In courtyard : Butterfly chair - Roof Garden in Rio.

Greys, mints & greens make a sophisticated yet fresh palette, that work perfectly in an indoor/ outdoor space.

36

Try this! Create an outdoor mood indoors, by using patterns that echo organic textures.

All the rules are off when you’re outdoors, because no matter how mad you go with colour & pattern, you’ll never outdo the crazy styling in Nature.
