Like the new bike corrals around Columbia and moving the farmers’ market to Main Street, my best-loved gifts share a common trait: they were exactly what I wanted but until I received them, it hadn't occurred to me that I wanted them at all. If I'm lucky, maybe this Christmas I will again unwrap the very thing I had no idea I wanted but am thrilled to have.
